Description

The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), Department of Emergency Med Chair Office is seeking a Researcher III. The UAB Department of Emergency Medicine is interested in developing new diagnostic tool(s) for detecting Emergency Department (ED)-relevant disease, such as bacterial infection and toxic ingestions. This position will require bench skills to carry out routine lab duties in a BSL 2 setting. There will be opportunities to participate in manuscript preparation, grant writing and conference presentation.

General Responsibilities

As directed:

  • To independently set up and perform experiments and procedures in support of lab goals.
  • To collect, enter, summarize, and analyze data.
  • To monitor results, detect and report unusual outcomes and suggest modifications.
  • To develop and improve techniques for the lab.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Conducts bench work under the direction of the Principal Investigator (PI).
  2. Participates in designing long and short-term experimental plans.
  3. Analyzes and summarizes data.
  4. Some parts of the project may involve handling patient-derived samples, and thus need to follow the UAB-IRB approved protocols.
  5. Typical lab skills expected of this position include, but not limited to, RNA handling, bacterial culture, plasmid DNA library maintenance, PCR, plate reader assays, tissue culture. Participate in routine internal meetings, and opportunities to present at conferences.
  6. Performs other duties as assigned.

Hourly Salary Range $17.10 - $28.31

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a related field
  • OR Bachelor’s degree in a related field and two (2) years of related experience
  • OR Associate's degree in a related field and four (4) years of related experience

Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.

  • Background in working with RNAs.
  • Leadership skills.
