The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), Neurobiology Department is seeking a Researcher III. This position will contribute to active research projects in a basic neuroscience lab investigating the role of molecular and genetic mechanisms in neuronal function, reward-related learning, motivated behavior, and substance abuse disorders. This position will operate with a high degree of independence. The Day Lab uses the gene editing platforms, single-cell RNA and ATAC sequencing, cell culture models, electrophysiology, and behavioral approaches to understand genetic and transcriptional mechanisms in brain health and disease states. Examples of our published work can be found at our lab website (www.day-lab.org). There will also be opportunities to learn additional molecular and genetic approaches.
General Responsibilities
As directed:
- To independently set up and perform experiments and procedures in support of lab goals.
- To collect, enter, summarize, and analyze data.
- To monitor results, detect and report unusual outcomes and suggest modifications.
- To develop and improve techniques for the lab.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Schedules and performs behavioral assay experiments using laboratory animal models. Maintains laboratory protocols and detailed experimental records In collaboration with other lab scientists.
- Collects and summarizes data, performs graphical, and statistical analysis on data.
- Assists with preparation of research manuscripts.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Annual Salary Range $17.10 - $19.71
Qualifications
- Master's degree in a related field
- OR Bachelor’s degree in a related field and two (2) years of related experience
- OR Associate's degree in a related field and four (4) years of related experience
Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.
Preferences
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite, including Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, and Excel.
- BS in a life science field.
- Experience in research laboratory.
- Animal handling in a research setting.
