As crucial members of UAB, Callahan Eye, the nursing Unit, and the Emergency Department, nurses play a pivotal role in patient care. They report directly to the Manager of Patient Care Advocacy. They are responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating nursing care for Emergency Department and Nursing Unit patients, all under our policies. Our staff also actively participates in teams that enhance outcome quality through process improvement and team technologies.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Must have a current Alabama license to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse.
- Our organization is committed to the continuous professional development of our staff. This is why we require BLS certification by the end of the employee provisional period. Additionally, ACLS and PALS certifications, crucial for emergency care, are required within one year of employment. This dedication to ongoing learning and skill development is a testament to our unwavering commitment to providing the highest quality of care.
- Must maintain required certifications.
- Previous Emergency Department experience and clinical ophthalmology and terminology knowledge are desirable

Provides quality patient care for the needs of the populations served and age-specific groups as indicated:
- Neonate (0-28 days)
- Infant (>28 days – 1 year),
- Pediatric (>1 – 12 years),
- Adolescent (>12 – 17 years),
- Adult (>17 – 65 years)
- Geriatric (>65 years)
