Director-Planning, Design & Construction Management (Team B)
The primary accountabilities below are intended to describe the general content of and requirements of this position and are not intended to be an exhaustive statement of duties.
Description
To direct and manage the team of facilities staff, consultants and contractors responsible for the overall development of larger planning design & construction programs and projects. To communicate project requirements, to make recommendations and to monitor project design and development in relation to major capital projects. To establish, manage, communicate, update, prioritize, budget and schedule the design and construction of major capital projects as required, including soliciting proposals, consideration of contract requirements and managing consultant activities of architects, engineers, etc., and to assist the AVP in selection of architects for major capital projects. To communicate and coordinate project design and construction activities with University Administration/clients and to prepare project information required for UAB Administration/Board of Trustees including status reports, project summaries, project planning reports.
ESSENTIAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Provides primary leadership for planning, support, reporting, campus planning, facilities/project programming, comprehensive campaign support (facility initiatives), special projects, and the associated reports/submittals to facilitate Board of Trustee’s approvals in accordance with Board Rule 415.
- Provides direction and oversight of scope, priorities, quality, budgets and schedules on multiple large capital projects ranging from small renovations to planning, design and construction of large land area studies and related construction projects.
- Coordinates and guides the design firm and consultant selection process for all capital projects.
- Manages Team B, which reviews prepared contracts to ensure compliance with terms and University standards. Assures quality planning and design project scopes, schedules and budgets and when needed, develops strategies for rapid completion of emergency projects.
- Manages Team B, which maintains project records, databases, as-built drawings, minutes of meetings, bid proposals and knowledge of current trends and developments.
STARTING ANNUAL RATE OF PAY: $94,375.00 - $150,000.00 (Commensurate with experience & qualifications
LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS/REGISTRATIONS:
Must maintain a valid driver's license issued in the United States. Motor Vehicle Record will be obtained and reviewed at least annually. Driving record should meet University underwriting standards to drive vehicle in performance of University business.

PERSONAL: Required to possess the necessary physical requirements, with or without the aid of mechanical devices, to safely perform the duties and responsibilities of this position: sitting at computer for long periods of time, frequent traveling, prolonged standing, walking significant distances between and within buildings on campus, bending, climbing stairs, ladders and scaffolding, and working at heights above thirty (30) feet.

Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree in Landscape Architecture, Architecture, Planning, Building Science, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related field and six (6) years of related experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for the education requirement.
