Description

The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), Department of Neuropathology, is seeking a Researcher II to study the cellular and molecular mechanisms regulating malignant brain tumors development. The lab project's aims to screen and identify novel targets to understand the role of the tumor micro-environment (TME) and the non-cellular extracellular matrix components in high grade gliomas growth, invasion, and advance therapeutic efficacy. The research is focused on cancer biology studies using in-vitro cancer cell models, brain tumor mouse models and patient-derived glioma models with the main goal of focusing on projects that have a high potential for future clinical translation. The ideal candidate will work with a high degree of independence and as part of a team overseeing projects within the laboratory as well as assume responsibility for the day-to-day operation of lab activities.

General Responsibilities

Under minimal supervision:

  • To set up and perform routine and established lab procedures in support of lab goals.
  • To collect, enter and summarize data.
  • To monitor results and report unusual outcomes.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Performs laboratory orders and collects accurately records, inventory, and provides data to management.
  2. Maintains essential lab resources, particularly rodent colonies, cell lines and patient derived models.
  3. Develops and improves techniques and procedures for the lab. Monitors results; Performs basic statistical data analysis.
  4. Assists in the maintenance and troubleshooting of lab equipment and supplies.
  5. Performs other duties as assigned.

Hourly Salary Range $15.50 - $19.50

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field
  • OR Associate's degree in a related field and two (2) years of related experience
  • OR High School diploma or GED and four (4) years of related experience

Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.

Preferences

  • Experience in cell culture, cancer research mice models , histology, Flow Cytometry, Western Blots, Immunohistochemistry (IHC) or Immunofluorescence (IF), microscopy, assays will be favorably considered.
  • Prior experience working with human specimens including tissue processing.
  • Experience with animal and EHS protocol.
