The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) is seeking a FINANCIAL AID SPECIALIST I to be responsible for administering federal, state, and institutional programs to ensure compliance with federal and state regulations. Provides personal counseling, information and guidance to students and parents concerning financial assistance programs. Provides a student-centered approach for customer service, which affects student recruitment and retention.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Answer student/parent calls and email inquiries; reviewing and processing PLUS loan applications; performing electronic data file import/export; and processing aid packages, updates, and revisions according to student and program needs for administering financial aid awards and disbursements.
- May be required to perform verification file review, post institutional and state awards, assist with 3rd party vendor programs, and other duties as assigned.
- Hold office hours at the One Stop Student Services on a weekly rotation with other Financial Aid Specialists and will need to be available to assist with various UAB events, presentations, and FAFSA workshops.
- Must remain up-to-date on federal compliance issues and attend sessions for ongoing training and professional development.
(Hourly Rate: $14.50 - $16.00)
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.
Preferred:
Minimum two (2) years of experience in the administration of federal, state, and institutional financial aid programs or related experience preferred. Must be able to effectively interpret and implement Title IV regulations. Strong and effective communication skills, both verbal and written, are essential. Must be committed to student support and quality customer service. Banner experience is a plus.
