The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), Department of Med - Pulmonary/Allergy/Critical Care, is seeking a Researcher II to conduct respiratory disease research with ferrets and other animal models.

General Responsibilities

Under minimal supervision:

  • To set up and perform routine and established lab procedures in support of lab goals.
  • To collect, enter and summarize data.
  • To monitor results and report unusual outcomes.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Keeps accurate and detailed records of all experiments and findings.
  2. Collaborates with other researchers and team members to share information and advance the understanding of respiratory diseases.
  3. Executes experiments.
  4. Monitors and reports unusual outcomes related to animal health status and disease presentation.
  5. Assists in the maintenance of animal colonies.
  6. Collects specimen for genetic analyses and organizing supplies.
  7. Performs other duties as assigned.

Hourly Salary Range $15.50 - $23.51


  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field
  • OR Associate's degree in a related field and two (2) years of related experience
  • OR High School diploma or GED and four (4) years of related experience

Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.


  • Prior experience working with large animals such as ferrets.
