Description
The Flow Cytometry and Single Cell Core Facility (FCSC) at the University of Alabama at Birmingham is recruiting a Researcher II, III, or IV (based on education and experience) to join the core facility and perform duties as a flow cytometrist. This position will plan, coordinate, and conduct scientific research requiring independent judgment. This position will be responsible for ensuring the administrative and operational activities of Flow Core are carried out cost-effectively.
Researchers II, III, or IV will operate flow cytometry equipment (BD FACSAria, BD Melody, ImageStream and Attune NxT, etc.). The shared researcher will be an active participant in the lab's comprehensive training program, consultant to scientific investigators, and mentor to junior technologists. The researcher will actively participate in the development of training and education programs as part of the core strategic plan. Flow cytometry specialist certification through ASCP (SCYM) is a plus.
The UAB FCSC serves as the sole flow cytometry and single-cell analysis resource for the entire University of Alabama at Birmingham research community and offers investigators access to state-of-the-art technology, operating fourteen (14) instruments.
General Information

- To oversee projects within the laboratory
- To assume responsibility for the day-to-day operation of lab activities.
- To collect, enter, summarize, analyze, and interpret data.
- To contribute significantly to the planning/design of studies.
- To help develop long or short-term goals.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Performs routine maintenance tasks.
- Conducts and collaborates on research projects as directed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Salary
Salary commensurate with experience.
Qualifications
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in related field
- OR Master's degree in a related field
- OR Doctorate in a related field
Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.
Preferences
- Degree in Biology, Biotech, Genetics, or related field.
- Experience with Flow Cytometry equipment and testing.
- Flow Cytometry specialist certification through ASCP (SCYM) is a plus
