FINANCIAL OFFICER II

University of Alabama at Birmingham

This position will be responsible for sponsored research post award activities and monitoring laboratory financials for individual research laboratories. Briefly this includes providing the faculty that they support with accurate and timely financial reports. This individual will assist in ensuring that costs are properly allocated to the various accounts, assist in effort adjustments when necessary, be responsible for forecasting, developing spending plans and assisting the department and faculty in managing and conforming to various spending policies and guidelines.

Key Roles & Responsibilities

  • assist faculty in generating and maintaining up-to-date other support documents
  • assist faculty in preparing award budgets and justifications
  • assist in setting up subawards and subcontracts
  • assist in navigating various research administration processes such as conflict of interest, IRB or IACUC approvals, subaward set up and grant account setup
  • responsible for tracking all post award processes and ensuring that account numbers and subaward documentation is processed in a timely manner
  • responsible for ensuring that all expenditures on grant accounts or other funding sources available for a particular faculty member or laboratory are correctly allocated, allowable and meet all of UAB and various sponsor rules and regulations
  • responsible for rebudgeting requests
  • assist in preparing progress reports and financial reports
  • assist in ensuring that spending on accounts takes place in a timely manner and that any errors are corrected within an appropriate timeline
  • assist in closing out grants and accounts
  • assist in generating final reports
  • assist in timely invoicing of sponsors
  • ensure that funds received are allocated to the correct account and accounted for correctly on various reports
  • responsible for providing faculty with accurate reports of spending and forecasting
  • responsible for staying up to date on UAB and sponsor rules and regulations around all post award, financials
  • assist with ensuring that personnel salaries and fringe are being appropriately charged to accounts

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Work Characteristics

Preferences On the job training is available, but candidates with prior experience with UAB post award, IRAP, Oracle financials, HR, BA4, and NIH grant management are preferred.

Salary Range: $50,050 - $81,330

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business or a related field
  • And five (5) years of related experience required.
  • Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.
