The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) seeks an ACADEMIC ADVISOR II to apply the core values and theories relevant to academic advising and to adapt academic advising approaches to meet the needs of a diverse student population. To implement projects to achieve specific academic advising outcomes. To implement the core values of the institution. To initiate career conversations with students. To apply legal guidelines of advising practices, including privacy regulations and confidentiality. To provide a holistic approach to advising that connects to and supports the unit vision and mission while using multiple support resources. To implement equitable and inclusive strategies within academic advising practices. To engage in ongoing individual assessment and development of self and the advising practice. To lead group presentations and further develop communication skills and understanding of policies and procedures. To provide service to UAB and department/unit communities.
Areas of Responsibility
SI Program
- Recruit, train, supervise and evaluate approximately 35-45 SI leaders
- Responsible for assisting SI leaders with coordinating sessions across campus.
- Gathers, analyzes, interprets and maintains program data and databases to construct detailed reports to advance program’s continuous improvement, efficiency and certifications.
- Responsible for monitoring and maintaining updates to the Tracking system for attendance and reports.
- Responsible for scheduling, payroll and record keeping.
- Communicates with academic departments and faculty to gather assessment data and monitors DFW course rates to ensure that courses have SI support.
- Assist with marketing and promotion of SI services.
- Responsible for maintaining budgetary requirements.
Academic Coaching
- Monitor the academic performance of students who are on required to complete an online academic success plan.
- Enhance online learning platform designed to support students on a success plan via Canvas LMS system.
- Engage with students referred from other offices to offer guidance and support on academic success initiatives to assist with academic success.
- Track progress of all students and complete reports on support initiatives.
Special Departmental and Institutional Projects
- Provide information to support data collection efforts in the evaluation of the effectiveness of programs, courses, and/or advising materials, policies and procedures, and students/advisor interactions.
- Serve on departmental, university, and professional committees as requested.
Orientation, Recruitment, Retention, Support, and Other Duties
- Assist in departmental presentations for incoming freshmen and transfer students. Participate in New Student Orientation, Open Houses, UAB Days, College Fairs, and related University events as needed.
- Participate in professional development opportunities and research conducted by the University.
- Participate in professional organizations and conferences.
- Perform other duties as assigned which may include special projects and/or assignments.
(Annual Salary: $41,175 - $45,500)
Qualifications
Master's degree in Counseling, Education or a related field and two (2) years of related experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement. Primary Location
