Description

The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), Department of Microbiology, is seeking a Researcher II. The lab will provide the successful candidate with the opportunity to learn cellular and molecular techniques including culture of primary lymphocytes and established cell lines, flow cytometry, cloning, cDNA expression, RNAi manipulation and biochemical analyses. The candidate will perform a wide variety of moderately complex laboratory tasks and animal experiments.

General Responsibilities

Under minimal supervision:

  • To set up and perform routine and established lab procedures in support of lab goals.
  • To collect, enter and summarize data.
  • To monitor results and report unusual outcomes.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Performs routine to complex calculations as needed by the principle investigator.
  2. Procedures and criteria are applied using varying levels of technical complexity.
  3. Instructions are detailed and specific as to protocols used and results expected.
  4. Collects, records, and organizes date using standard methodology.
  5. Maintains lab equipment and inventory levels of supplies.
  6. Assists with and/or performs technical animal procedures.
  7. Performs other duties as assigned.

Hourly Salary Range $15.50 - $23.51

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  • OR Associate's degree in a related field and two (2) years of related experience.
  • OR High School diploma or GED and four (4) years of related experience.

Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.

  • Degree in a Biological Science.
