This position is designed to help the healthcare provider by taking care of clerical responsibilities. By doing so, the provider can give more attention to clinical care. The Medical Scribe's role is limited to documentation and efficiency management for the provider. The scribe is not licensed and has a purely non-clinical role. They do not provide patient care or interact with patients in any way. During patient encounters, the Medical Scribe observes the provider and documents the necessary information in the patient's electronic chart under the provider's guidance. All documentation is thoroughly reviewed and edited by the provider, followed by an attestation that the scribed chart accurately reflects all the work performed by the provider. Although a Medical Scribe does not perform clinical duties, their role plays a vital part in the clinical efficiency, and they should expect to develop a good working relationship with physician colleagues.
