FOR USE BY ASC ONLY: The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) seeks a SENIOR STAGE MANAGER to assist in the execution of all UAB Arts Alliance events/ activities productions as advanced by the Technical Director. To oversee the preparation, hanging and connection of stage lighting fixtures and audio equipment. To assist with all aspects of production, maintaining a professional and courteous work environment, management of work crews and students for the set up, operation and dismantling of lights, sound and stage equipment. To remain informed of all technical requirements of artists and to assist the implementation of the technical needs of performance artists. To coordinate efforts between front-of-house personnel and technical personnel to assure that events are executed in a timely and efficient manner. To work with other Arts Alliance personnel on non-technical work-related needs as necessary for any events.


1. Maintains a repertory lighting plot in all ASC venues based on current inventories. Documents and tracks all circuiting, addressing and system configuration in cooperation with the Director.

2. Assists in planning and implementing use of lighting or audio inventory as well as electric power, DMX distribution and signal routing.
3. Oversees patching assignments of the control consoles based on the paperwork generated by the advance of the artist rider.
4. Oversees all lighting, audio and staging needs of a given production, and often serves as the lighting designer, audio engineer or both. Builds and operates complex audio and lighting systems to meet the needs of a wide variety of events and productions.
5. Develops lighting, sound and set change cues. Records the timing of each as it relates to the script and other aspects of the performance.
6. Serves as an adjunct to the director during rehearsals by recording the blocking and ensuring that cast members stay on script, have the requisite props and follow the blocking. Assists with the establishment of show rehearsal schedules and ensures that rehearsals run effectively and on time.
7. Controls all aspects of the performance by calling the cues for all transitions and acts as the communications hub for the cast and crew. May call the show while other team members operate backstage to ensure actors and crew are ready to perform their duties.
8. Makes decisions regarding the occupational safety and health of workers in line with UAB/ASC policies and industry standards.
9. Performs other duties as assigned.

(Hourly Rate: $15.50 - $25.20)


Associate's degree in Theatre Production or a related field and three (3) years of related experience required. Work experience may substitute for education requirement.
