Description
The University of Alabama at Birmingham, Department of Neurobiology, is seeking a Researcher IV.
General Responsibilities
Working with a high degree of independence:
- To oversee projects within the laboratory
- To assume responsibility for the day-to-day operation of lab activities.
- To collect, enter, summarize, analyze, and interpret data.
- To contribute significantly to the planning/design of studies.
- To help develop long or short-term goals.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Sets up and performs routine and established lab procedures in support of lab goals.
- Runs behavioral experiments in rats/mice, including self-administration and tests of cognition, anxiety, and depression.
- Performs surgical procedures in rodents.
- Maintains transgenic rodent colonies.
- Collects biological samples from rodents.
- Performs histology and microscopic imaging on rodent brain tissue.
- Collects, enter, analyze, and graph data according to established lab protocols.
- Monitors results; detects and reports unusual outcomes.
- Orders lab supplies and maintains inventory; maintains lab equipment.
- Performs basic statistical data analysis.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Annual Salary Range $47,486.40 - $55,000.00
Qualifications
- Doctorate in a related field
- OR Master's degree in a related field and two (2) years of related experience
- OR Bachelor’s degree in related field and four (4) years of related experience
- OR Associate's degree in related field and six (6) years of related experience
Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.
Preferences
- Prior experience working in a basic science lab is required.
- On the job training is available, but candidates with prior experience with rodent handling and/or behavior, histology, and microscopy, and/or coding, even if exposure is only through laboratory coursework, are preferred.
- Prior experience with transgenic rodent colony management, management of other personnel, and/or experience with specialized software is desired.
