Description

The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) seeks a CERTIFIED NURSE-MIDWIFE to include full-scope nurse-midwifery practice within the context of a physician-midwife and interprofessional collaborative team environment. Outpatient care and hospital-based births are expectations of this position. Additionally, collaboration with nurses providing care through Nurse Family Partnerships (NFP) will be part of this role to connect care that improves perinatal outcomes by NFP providing community care to relationship-based care for patient who enroll in the program. The nurse-midwife candidate must be committed to providing high quality health care to patients that is congruent with the ACNM Core Competencies and utilizes the midwifery philosophy of care. The focus of this position is to provide excellent patient experiences and collaborate with NFP, community-based nursing, that supports improving perinatal outcomes. The applicant should be interested in working in developing a strong physician-midwife team. It will be important to have a desire to work with student nurse-midwives as this role will incorporate precepting expectations for UAB nurse-midwifery students. Servicing for Mobile, Baldwin, Escambia, and Conecuh counties of Alabama.

1. Provides full-scope nurse-midwifery practice including a mix of ambulatory and inpatient care. Inpatient care and may include primary or consult services within a team-based model of care.
2. May work atypical hours and fewer days per week utilizing a shift based model or traditional 8 hours per day/ 5 days per week methodology. Full time APPs working 12-hour clinical days will work 14-16 clinical days/month.
3. A full time APP has clinical effort of 90% of time patient-facing and 10% administrative time. Patient access expectations are established by the APP's respective department.
4. May be required to work nights, weekends, or holidays depending on practice coverage needs.
5. May be required to provide call coverage (up to five nights per month prior to additional compensation).
6. May be required to stay for inclement weather when necessary.
7. May have additional inpatient clinical days when necessary to ensure safe, effective patient care for unforeseen extenuating circumstances to ensure patient safety.
8. Examples of performance metrics include traditional productivity metrics (i.e. encounters), patient access, throughput, quality, patient experience and academic contribution.
9. Performs other duties as assigned.

(Annual Salary: $99,090 - $126,170)

Qualifications

Master's degree in Nursing, or higher, is required. Individual must have successfully completed a midwifery program accredited by Accreditation Commission of Midwifery Education. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement. Certified in Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association (AHA) is required or should be obtained within 30 days of employment. Depending on the unit/department, Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification and/or Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP). Required: eligible for or licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) in Alabama or compact state accepted by Alabama, and eligible for or licensed as a Certified Nurse-Midwife (CNM) by the Alabama Board of Nursing and eligible for collaborative practice physician agreement.
