Description
The University of Alabama at Birmingham is seeking a Researcher II to perform a wide variety of moderately complex laboratory tasks and animal experiments. The position will maintain lab equipment and inventory supply levels, collect recorded data, and organize using standard methodology.
The lab will provide the successful candidate with the opportunity to learn cellular and molecular techniques including culture of primary lymphocytes and established cell lines, flow cytometry, cloning, cDNA expression, RNAi manipulation and biochemical analyses. The candidate will also assist with and/or perform required technical animal procedures.
General Responsibilities
Under minimal supervision:
- To set up and perform routine and established lab procedures in support of lab goals.
- To collect, enter and summarize data.
- To monitor results and report unusual outcomes.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Sets up and performs routine and established lab procedures in support of lab goals. Runs assays, cell/tissue culture, animal studies, etc.
- Collects, enters and summarizes data.
- Monitors results; detects and reports unusual outcomes.
- Assists in the maintenance and trouble-shooting of lab equipment and supplies.
- Performs basic statistical data analysis.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Salary Range: $15.50 - $23.51 Hourly
Qualifications
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field
- OR Associate's degree in a related field and two (2) years of related experience
- OR High School diploma or GED and four (4) years of related experience
Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.
Preferences
- Degree in microbiology, cell biology or related biological science field.
- Experience working in a scientific lab and have the ability to clone, manipulate RNAi, and understand flow cytometry.
