Description

The University of Alabama at Birmingham is seeking a Researcher III in the Division of General Surgery Oncology Section. The ideal candidate will have prior experience in routine cell culture and molecular biology techniques like western blotting, PCR, flow cytometry and microscopy. The Researcher III position will perform a wide range of scientific activities / experiments as needed as a part of a larger project. The Researcher III will also be involved in maintenance of animal colonies including setting up of breeding, weaning and genotyping.

General Responsibilities

As directed:

  • To independently set up and perform experiments and procedures in support of lab goals.
  • To collect, enter, summarize, and analyze data.
  • To monitor results, detect and report unusual outcomes and suggest modifications.
  • To develop and improve techniques for the lab.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Sets up and performs experiments and procedures in support of lab goals.
  2. Develops and improves techniques for the lab.
  3. Contributes to planning/design of studies.
  4. Collects, enters, summarizes and analyzes data.
  5. Monitors results, detects and reports unusual outcomes and suggests modifications.
  6. May assist in planning long or short term goals/fiscal management.
  7. Ensure compliance of lab with various regulatory agencies.
  8. Performs maintenance of lab equipment and supplies.
  9. Performs other duties as assigned.

Hourly Salary Range $17.10 - $28.75

Qualifications

Requirements

  • Master's degree in a related field
  • OR Bachelor’s degree in a related field and two (2) years of related experience
  • OR Associate's degree in a related field and four (4) years of related experience

Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.

Preferences

  • Experience in routine cell culture and molecular biology techniques like western blotting, PCR, flow cytometry and microscopy.
