PROGRAM DIRECTOR I

The Department of Infectious Disease seeks a Program I to join the Patel Research Group for various HIV and HCV related research, implementation science, and public health projects. This individual will serve as a senior member of the team and will be responsible for overseeing day-to-day operations, supervising project personnel, coordinating implementation activities across multiple partner organizations, and leading development of protocols, regulatory submissions, grants, reports, manuscripts, and other scholarly products. We are seeking a highly organized, self-motivated individual with strong leadership, project management, and writing skills who enjoys working in collaborative community-academic partnerships. This position works closely with investigators, project staff, healthcare systems, community partners, and government agencies to ensure successful project implementation and dissemination of project findings.

General Responsibilities

  • Directs the operations of a small programmatic function.

  • Independently designs, develops and administers program content. Establishes program objectives.

  • Manages program fiscal operations.

  • Supervises staff engaged in carrying out program activities.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Direct and manage project implementation activities across multiple projects, programmatic teams, and partner organizations.

  • Supervise, mentor, train, and evaluate project personnel and support a positive, high-performing team environment.

  • Coordinate project timelines, deliverables, meetings, and communication among investigators, staff, and external stakeholders.

  • Build and maintain collaborative relationships with healthcare systems, community organizations, public health agencies, and implementation partners.

  • Lead development of study protocols, implementation plans, standard operating procedures, training materials, and study documentation.

  • Prepare study protocols and submit IRB applications, amendments, continuing reviews, and other regulatory documents.

  • Lead preparation of grant applications, progress reports, technical reports, manuscripts, presentations, and dissemination materials.

  • Monitor project performance and support evaluation, quality improvement, and reporting activities.

  • Identify operational barriers and implement solutions to support successful project execution.

  • Lead planning for stakeholder meetings, site visits, conferences, and other project-related activities.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Preferred

  • Preferred Education/Skills/Experience: Master’s degree or higher in Health Sciences, Public Health, Health Administration, Nursing, Social Sciences, Public Policy, Clinical Research, or a related field preferred.

  • Prior experience managing complex health research, public health, or implementation projects preferred.

  • Demonstrated experience supervising and mentoring staff.

  • Experience writing or contributing to grant applications, study protocols, IRB submissions, reports, and/or peer-reviewed manuscripts.

  • Excellent project management and organizational skills.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams.

  • Experience engaging healthcare, community, academic, and governmental partners preferred.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products, virtual meeting platforms, and project management tools.

  • Experience in HIV, viral hepatitis, implementation science, health services research, or public health programs preferred.

Salary Range: $47,665-$77,455

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field and three (3) years of related experience required.

  • Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.
