General Responsibilities:
The UAB PrEP Clinic is seeking a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) to provide clinical support for a growing HIV prevention and sexual health treatment program. Working under general supervision, the CMA will assist providers with patient care, perform clinical and administrative duties, and help ensure the efficient delivery of comprehensive PrEP, STI, and sexual health services in a fast-paced outpatient setting.
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
1. Provide direct clinical support including but not limited to rooming patients, obtaining and documenting vital signs, medical histories, medication reconciliation, and preparing patients for provider evaluation.
2. Perform clinical procedures including phlebotomy, specimen collection and processing, point-of-care testing, vaccine administration, and medication/injection preparation in accordance with UAB Medicine protocols and scope of practice.
3. Coordinate patient care activities by assisting with scheduling follow-up appointments, facilitating lab orders, communicating test results as directed, and assisting with the triage of referrals to and from external services.
4. Support PrEP and related sexual health services by assisting with same-day PrEP visits, STI screening visits, long-acting injectable PrEP administration, inventory management, and patient education regarding treatment plans and follow-up care.
5. Maintain efficient clinic operations by ensuring exam rooms are stocked and prepared, documenting care accurately in the EMR, adhering to infection prevention standards, and collaborating with the PrEP Clinic team to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care.
6. Performs other duties as assigned.
Hourly Pay Range: $15.00 – $23.55
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
High School diploma or GED required.
License / Certifications / Registrations:
Currently certified as a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) by the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) or Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) by the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) required. If certified by another accrediting agency, AAMA or NHA certification must be obtained within six (6) months of employment. Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification required or must be obtained within thirty (30) days of employment.
