Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) - UAB Student Health Services
Work schedule:
Part-time (0.6 FTE - 24 hours per week)
Day shift (8am-5pm)
UAB Student Health Services is seeking a dedicated Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner to join our team in a part-time role. Under the collaborative guidance of physicians from UAB Psychiatry and UAB Student Health Services, the CRNP will provide comprehensive, student-centered mental health care to UAB students. Responsibilities include conducting psychiatric evaluations and assessments, developing and implementing individualized treatment plans, prescribing and managing psychotropic medications within the scope of practice and collaborative agreement, ordering and interpreting appropriate diagnostic studies, and coordinating referrals for specialized care when needed. The successful candidate will integrate evidence-based practices to support the emotional, behavioral, and psychological well-being of students while maintaining accurate clinical documentation and compliance with regulatory standards. This role also serves as a clinical resource for interdisciplinary team members, promotes patient education, contributes to quality improvement initiatives, and fosters a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment that advances student health and academic success.
To provide medical care and treatment within established scope of nursing practice to patients as assigned by and under the direction of the collaborating physician (Section 610-X-9 of the Alabama Board of Nursing Administrative Code). The collaborating physician shall be available for direct communication for consultation and referral or arrange for the same medical coverage by a physician who is pre-approved by the State Board of Medical Examiners in the same manner as the collaborating physician of record. To coordinate plan of care, discharge and specialty referrals as appropriate to meet the age specific needs of the patient. To plan and coordinate health care education for patient, family and other health care providers as needed. To perform comprehensive physical examinations and assessments. To interpret, analyze and evaluate patient s medical record and social data. To perform and/or assist the physician with procedures per collaborative agreement. To coordinate and participate in performance improvement activities. $46,584.00 - $75,702.00 (Note: this salary is based on a 0.6 FTE - 24 hours per week)
Qualifications
Master's degree in Nursing with Psychiatric Mental Health NP certification required. If job is in The Kirklin Clinic (TKC), three (3) years of nursing experience preferred. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement. Currently certified as an Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) with Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner (CRNP) Specialty by the Alabama Board of Nursing required. If job is in The Kirklin Clinic (TKC), current certification in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) required or must be obtained within the first 30 days of employment. Certified in Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association (AHA) is required or should be obtained within 30 days of employment. Depending on the unit/department, Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification and/or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) from the American Heart Association (AHA) may be required.
