STUDENT AFFAIRS SPECIALIST II

General Responsibilities:
The Coordinator of Student Organizations is a full-time professional staff member reporting to the Assistant Director of Student Programs. S/he will assist the Assistant Director with the implementation and assessment of student programs and resources within the Office of Student Family Engagement.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:
1. Provide primary support for UAB's student organization community, serving both undergraduate and graduate students.
2. Provide day-to-day oversight of the University's online involvement platform, Engage.
3. Directly responsible for all student organization registration and re-registration process, review of all student organization event submissions, and student organization support and training.
4. Directly advise Freshman Forum, a first-year student organization within the Undergraduate Student Government Association.
5. Directly advise the UAB Pathfinders (involvement mentors) including their monthly Involvement Fair Programming.
6. Assist in the planning, development, coordination and assessment of the following programs including, but not limited to ConnectFest and Stress-Less Week.
7. Performs other duties as assigned.

Salary Pay Range: $35,570 – $41,000

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Education, Counseling, Social Sciences or a related field and two (2) years of related experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.

Preferred:
Master's degree with a concentration in College Student Personnel, Higher Education Administration, Leadership or a related field.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:
• 1-2 years in a university setting (time spent as a graduate assistant will count towards this requirement).
• Demonstrated knowledge of advising and student organization management.
• Exemplary organizational skills with a strong emphasis on details.
• Experience in planning programs and events.
• Ability to present workshops and training sessions that address harm reduction, membership recruitment, organization management, and event planning.
• Excellent communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills.
• Evening and weekend work may be required throughout the year.
• Strong computer skills using Windows, Microsoft Word and Excel and the Engage platform.
