LICENSING ASSOCIATE

General Responsibilities:
This position exists only in the UAB Research Foundation. Evaluates, protects and markets invented products, processes and/or intellectual property. Manages patent portfolios, coordinates and facilitates licensing negotiations and agreements for invented products, processes and/or intellectual property. Facilitates the creation of start-up companies that are spun out of the University. Facilitates interinstitutional agreements between the University and sister institutions. Assist in the management of material transfer agreements coming into and out of the University along with consortium research agreements between UAB and other entities.
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
1. Identify, establish, and maintain relationships with industry partners to support the marketing and commercialization of UAB technologies and intellectual property.
2. Promote UAB technologies and inventions to prospective licensees and industry partners through phone calls, email, written correspondence, online platforms, and professional networking events.
3. Prepare, review, and execute confidentiality agreements and other routine agreements with external companies to facilitate technology evaluation and collaboration.
4. Support senior Technology Licensing Officers in evaluating invention disclosures, coordinating intellectual property protection, developing commercialization strategies, marketing technologies, and negotiating licensing opportunities.
5. Performs other duties as assigned.
Salary Pay Range: $70,425 – $90,000
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Life Sciences or a related field and three (3) years of related experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for the education requirement.
Preferred:
• Biology background preferred.
• Prepare technical abstracts and other scientific summaries to support technology marketing and commercialization efforts.
• Conduct and initiate technical, patent, and commercial market research to assess the scientific, competitive, and commercial potential of UAB technologies.
