The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), Nursing Res & Scholarship, is seeking a Clinical Research Coordinator I.
This position supports and reports to the Principal Investigator (PI) and their team on HIV-related community health and behavioral research projects. Under general PI supervision, this individual is responsible for assisting with the day-to-day operations of study projects. This person operates with a high degree of independence, is responsible for supporting project goals and objectives, and provides administrative support such as coordinating daily activities, handling study recruitment visits and payment, and assisting in the financial management of the program. Will also be responsible for developing procedures and processes to implement the study (e.g. database development, data cleaning, data management), regulatory processes (e.g. IRB submissions), day-to-day operations (e.g., scheduling of meetings with study teams), routine and ongoing reports (e.g., NIH progress reports), and maintenance of key functions of research protocols. The individual in this role will facilitate budget expenditures, write reports, and reconciliation in accordance with UAB and School of Nursing policies and procedures.
General Responsibilities
To serve as coordinator for studies and provide support to other team members within the confines of the protocol as directed.
To support screening and participant eligibility determination, working with more senior team members to ensure compliance.
To conduct activities in accordance with the protocol, regulations and Good Clinical Practice (GCP).
To assist with the study life cycle from start-up to closure, i.e., collecting and recording data, recruiting and performing follow-up with participants, scheduling visits and assisting in coordination of lab and fieldwork.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Facilitates and tracks progress and outcomes for grant projects as directed by the PI; proactively prioritizes assignments to achieve timely outcomes and applies critical thinking to resolve issues as they arise. May handle sensitive or specialized correspondence with participants and other constituents as needed.
Processes participant incentive payments and reimbursements and prepares reimbursement documentation for study-related site visit expenses, in accordance with study protocols and UAB policies, including use of electronic payment platforms (e.g., ClinCard) and maintenance of accurate records and supporting documentation.
Maintains central calendar for tracking study timelines and coordinates participant follow-up assessments at required intervals (e.g., 3-month contacts), including proactive outreach to confirm and complete visits on schedule.
Schedules and supports team meetings, focus groups, interviews, and surveys; records meeting minutes; and coordinates with collaborators, consultants, and external agencies as needed, including travel arrangements for the PI/team.
Assists with developing data reports in collaboration with the PI and study team.
Orders, tracks, and coordinates shipping of study supplies and equipment.
Creates and organizes study files, data storage, and archives, as needed; assists in preparation, editing, and submission of presentations and publications.
Ensures compliance with grant, SON, UAB, and sponsor policies and procedures, including applicable IRB requirements and human subjects protections.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Annual Salary Range: $43,890 - $55,000
Qualifications
High School diploma or GED required.
Preferences
A Bachelor's degree or higher in a health-related field is strongly preferred.
A minimum of one year of experience in clinical research coordination, community-based research, or a participant-facing research or administrative role is preferred.
