Position Summary
The University of Alabama at Birmingham, Genetics Research Division, is seeking a dedicated Researcher Assistant to join their team. The candidate will independently set up and perform experiments and procedures in support of lab goals as directed. To collect, enter, summarize and analyze data. To monitor results, detect and report unusual outcomes and suggest modifications. To develop and improve techniques for the lab.
General Responsibilities
As a Researcher Assistant, you will contribute to the daily operations of research projects under the close supervision of experienced researchers. This role involves performing standard research tasks, including sample processing, basic data analysis, and maintaining accurate records. Your support will be crucial in helping senior team members execute complex protocols and ensuring the smooth functioning of the lab. Depending on the research focus, this position may involve research collaborator contact, research animal contact, and/or specimens.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Maintain and expand animal breeding colonies according to study protocols.
Provide routine animal care, maintenance and animal husbandry.
Set up and track the performance of breeding pairs, document the birth, size, and sex of litters, and wean litters.
Ensure appropriate record keeping for the colony.
Handle, restrain, and perform routine animal techniques on animals according to study protocols.
Collect, enter, summarize and analyze data.
Maintain safe, clean and organized laboratory environment and areas.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Hourly Range: $ 16.50- $26.80
Qualifications
Qualifications
Associate's degree in a related field OR High School diploma or GED and two (2) years of related experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.
Preferences
Bachelor's degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Immunology, Pharmacology, or a closely related field
Recent mouse work experience including mouse colony maintenance, mouse handling and restraint, and performing routine procedures like tail vein blood drawing, injections are a plus.
Candidate must be proficient with use of personal computer and software packages needed to analyze and present data acquired through this lab work.
