HVAC Mechanic (Campus Maintenance)
The primary accountabilities below are intended to describe the general content of and requirements of this position and are not intended to be an exhaustive statement of duties.

Position Summary:
To perform skilled maintenance, repair, installation, and inspection of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems across existing and renovated facilities. To ensure equipment operates efficiently and safely by conducting routine and preventive maintenance activities, including inspection, troubleshooting, adjustment, and component replacement. To respond to routine and emergency service requests in a timely manner and support building operations. To collaborate with other maintenance personnel and trades to complete work assignments and maintain facility functionality.
Essential Accountabilities:
Maintains, repairs, modifies, replaces, installs, and performs routine and preventive maintenance on a wide variety of light and heavy duty heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration equipment for existing facilities and those under renovation.
Inspects installations of HVAC equipment installed by others.
Performs routine and preventive maintenance, including operating, cleaning, inspecting, troubleshooting, adjusting, tightening, replacing, lubricating, and reporting issues on assigned HVAC equipment.
Reads, understands and interprets blueprints, drawings, floor plans, schedules and manufacturers’ operating and/or maintenance specifications as related to electrical, mechanical, plumbing, HVAC and special equipment, building structures and finishes.
Assists other maintenance personnel including electricians, plumbers, maintenance technicians, and sheet metal workers in the completion of work assignments.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Knowledge of HVAC and refrigeration systems, including installation, maintenance, and repair
Ability to troubleshoot and diagnose mechanical and electrical issues
Skill in performing routine and preventive maintenance tasks
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, and equipment manuals
Knowledge of safety practices, tools, and equipment used in maintenance work
Ability to work independently and collaboratively with other trades
Ability to respond to service requests and prioritize work in a timely manner
Must be able to demonstrate advanced HVAC competencies, including direct digital control installation and setup, air‑flow measurement and calculation, and compressor overhaul and refrigerant handling.
Hourly Pay Range:
$22.35 - $32.00 (Commensurate with experience & qualifications)
Work Schedule:
Monday through Friday, 7:00am-3:30pm (subject to change to meet the needs of the department and University).
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
Graduate from an accredited Technical School of HVAC and Four (4) years of related experience required.
Work experience may substitute for education requirement.
Licenses/Certifications/Registrations:
Currently certified with a Section 608 Technician Type I, II, or III Certification from the United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) required.
MVR (Motor Vehicle Record):
Driving record must meet University underwriting guidelines, including:
Valid U.S. driver’s license
Minimum age of 21
At least three years of driving experience
Acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR)
Physical Requirements:
Must possess the physical ability, with or without mechanical assistance, to safely perform job duties, including:
Lifting and carrying a minimum of fifty (50) pounds.
Climbing stairs, ladders and scaffolding, and working at heights above thirty (30) feet.
· Performing tasks requiring bending, stooping, kneeling, and walking significant distances between and within buildings on campus.
· Working in confined spaces and extreme temperatures
· Working within extreme temperature ranges
