ASSISTANT DIRECTOR-STUDENT COUNSELING SERVICES

General Responsibilities:
The Assistant Director of Student Counseling Services (SCS) serves as a senior clinician and administrator within UAB's comprehensive counseling center. The primary functional responsibility of this AD position is leadership and oversight of the Collegiate Recovery Community (CRC). This position administers recovery supportive programs and services, mentors and supervises student leaders, promotes the CRC on campus and in the community, and provides education and outreach related to recovery and student well-being. This role utilizes evidence informed and theory driven practices to foster a safe, inclusive environment for students in recovery, engages in assessment and strategic planning, and supports sustainability efforts including partnerships, development opportunities, and grant funding.
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
1. Provides counseling and services to individuals, couples, and/or groups as well as crisis intervention.
2. Assists in the development and implementation of SCS programs, policies, and procedures, and the development of psychoeducational materials.
3. Provides consultation to UAB faculty and staff on the appropriate handling of student mental health concerns.
4. Maintains relationships with other departments within UAB and the professional community.
5. Participates in on-call schedule for after-hours emergencies and Critical Incident debriefings.
6. Supervises staff and /or trainees.
7. Manages special projects as assigned by the Director.
8. Performs other duties as assigned.
Salary Pay Range: $43,890 – $71,320
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
Master's degree in Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy, Social Work or a related field and six (6) years of related experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.
Preferences:
Related experience includes: clinical counseling in community, college, or university settings; leadership or coordination of recovery support programs; student mental health program development; supervision of staff or trainees; campus outreach and education; crisis response; and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams and community partners.
Related degree fields may include: Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, and Marriage & Family Therapy.
Licenses / Certifications / Registrations:
Currently licensed as a(n) Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) by the Alabama Board of Examiners in Counseling (ABEC) OR currently licensed as a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) by the Alabama Board of Examiners in Marriage and Family Therapy OR currently licensed as a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) by the Alabama State Board of Social Work Examiners required.

• Knowledge of and experience identifying mental health and wellbeing issues that commonly affect students
• Ability to provide clinical counseling services to a diverse client population
• High degree of confidentiality and professionalism
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Knowledge of campus and community resources that support student success
• Conflict resolution skills
• Strong organizational skills including attention to detail, planning, and prioritization of workload
• Strong team leadership and management skills
