DIRECTOR RESEARCH TECHNOLOGY & COMMUNICATIONS

General Responsibilities:
The Director of Research Technology and Communications is responsible for all research related systems, reporting, analytics, communications, website development and maintenance. This position will be responsible for the strategic planning and execution to address complex business and communication systems for the UAB Office of Research (OoR). This position will oversee system(s) life cycle management for projects and programs supporting UABs research business and regulatory areas, oversee the administration of the OoR web environment. To assist OoR leadership in identifying system issues and to determine if system upgrades or replacement is required. To align business needs and IT solutions with a focus on internal and external customers. The position is tasked with the review, selection, scope of work (SOW) development, contract negotiation, implementation, deployment and on-going maintenance of all UAB enterprise-wide research administration systems including both on-prem and cloud software systems. The role will oversee the release of new technologies as well as designs, installs, configures, maintains and performs system integration testing. Responsible for trouble shooting functional and technical system issues as reported by end-users. Researches, evaluates and recommends software and hardware products to research leadership.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:
1. Lead all aspects of the university-wide myUABResearch electronic research administrative system deployment including selection, negotiation, implementation, testing, training and support for all UAB research faculty, support staff, central research administrative units and research leadership.
2. Responsible for research analytics including research expenditure reporting, research awards and submissions reporting, UAB Dean's dashboard reporting, annual reports including allocation, volume and success reporting.
3. Lead the OoR training and development team including development of delivery of external and internal training curriculum.
4. Oversees training and development programs using a variety of modalities and resources in a department to drive performance in support of UAB's values, mission and strategic plan.
5. Manages and develops curricula of core learning and development solutions focused on professional effectiveness, communication, collaboration, management and leading across UAB.
6. Directs and prioritizes the work of subordinate personnel. Performs salary administration and annual performance evaluations, interviews and makes recommendations for new hires, consultants and/or replacement personnel, and handles personnel issues in coordination with UAB Human Resources.
7. Develops models for data reporting, ascertains user needs and campus reporting requirements, and develops a library of standard and complex ad hoc reports requested by users.
8. Maintains system user's manual, develops additional training material, participates in the campus-wide training program for research administrators and serves as the department director for problem resolution.
9. Responsible for all UAB research legacy systems including IRAP and Bioware.
10. Lead campus-wide awareness and communication campaigns including periodic Town Halls, Office Hours, virtual module training, and instructor sessions.
11. Mentors and coaches RTC system direct and indirect reports including onboarding, scheduling, counseling, budgeting, and performance assessments.
12. Manage all university-wide research administrative systems including InfoReady, Pivot, LabArchives, Priority Software (FBS and BA4). Lead the team directly responsible for operationalizing, work-flow development, systems administrative management, testing, upgrades, patching and training.
13. Provide Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) training support including development and deployment of all training curriculum for each EHS unit. Responsible for EHS OnSite system training.
14. Serve as the UAB CITI training administrator for research compliance training.
15. Responsible for the UAB Learning Locker (LMS), Docebo, and HealthStream research training administration, including reporting.
16. Performs other duties as assigned.

Salary Pay Range: $104,045 – $169,075

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Business or a related field and eight (8) years of related experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.
