Description
Reporting to the ArtPlay Director, this community-based position plays a crucial role in managing a diverse portfolio of programs, projects, and events that promote arts engagement and education across UAB's campus and the greater Birmingham community. This includes organizing events such as camp expos, ArtShare by ArtPlay, and other outreach activities. This position also oversees the coordination, administration, and execution of various PreK-12 community programs, including theatre and visual arts camps, satellite classes and camps, the Emerging Artists program, and year-round community arts education classes both on and off-site. Other duties may be assigned as needed.
Responsible for administratively managing a University department under the general direction of a functional Program Director or under the auspices of a Program Advising Committee and according to an established program plan. May participate in the development of program objectives and is responsible for achieving objectives within defined parameters set by University and/or department policies and procedures or technical principles. May require fiscal management of grants and other funds. May manage multiple programs. Requires the use of independent judgment to determine the best approach to accomplish objectives established in the program plan. May supervise staff as needed.
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
- Plan, develop, and implement ArtPlay’s community‑ and campus‑based programs, events, and activities.
- Lead the design and management of ArtPlay’s Theatre and Visual Arts Summer Camps, mid‑year and school‑break camps, and other mini‑camps.
- Direct ArtPlay’s yearlong Emerging Artists Program, including classes, performances, and youth theatre experiences (e.g., annual New York City theatre trip).
- Oversee ArtPlay’s PreK–12 satellite outreach programs, including management of partnerships, contracts, and teaching artist assignments.
- Coordinate signature ArtPlay events such as Family Days, Homecoming Activities, the UAB CFA Block Party, Pop‑Up Thursdays, and After‑School Programs.
- Serve as ArtPlay’s on‑site representative at select events to ensure professional execution and a positive participant experience.
- Build and maintain relationships across UAB and within the Birmingham community to increase awareness of and participation in ArtPlay programs.
- Collaborate with UAB departments, schools, and community organizations to create inclusive and engaging arts programming.
- Ensure ArtPlay representation at expos, outreach events, and community functions to enhance visibility and engagement.
- Assist with recruiting, interviewing, and selecting teaching artists and part‑time staff.
- Create and deliver onboarding and training sessions for new teaching artists, camp staff, and contractors.
- Provide supervision and ongoing support to ensure high‑quality, engaging instruction.
- Coordinate logistics, scheduling, and communication for all assigned programs.
- Work with the ArtPlay Program Coordinator to complete administrative tasks, invoices, and financial documentation.
- Maintain accurate records, program data, and post‑program evaluations.
- Collaborate with teaching artists to design innovative, standards‑aligned arts programs and curricula.
- Develop and manage promotional content for ArtPlay’s in‑house social media campaigns.
- Collect and analyze program evaluation data to support continuous improvement.
- Develop, monitor, and manage budgets for assigned programs in compliance with UAB and ArtPlay policies.
- Support team‑wide ArtPlay and UAB Center for the Arts initiatives as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Salary Range: $43,890 - $54,000
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a related field and two (2) years of related experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.
