Description
The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) seeks a CLINIC CORDINATOR to supervise daily clinic activities and work assignments. Assists in development and implementation of clinic policies and procedures. Monitors and maintains schedules, records, equipment and supply inventories. Assists with clinical procedures as required. Assists in planning and implementing educational activities. Trains, certifies and assists staff and students in clinical procedures. Answers questions, evaluates employees and ensures procedures are performed according to established protocols. Oversees billing and collection activities. Processes routine financial transactions and resolves concerns related to patient accounts. Responds to the needs of all patients ages newborn through geriatric.
This position will also exercise judgment in prioritizing front desk workflows and staff coverage to maintain patient access and financial accuracy. The role independently decides how to resolve complex patient account and insurance issues and determines when matters require escalation to leadership or downstream revenue cycle teams. Decisions directly affect patient satisfaction, compliance, and revenue integrity.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Lead front office patient account operations to ensure accurate registration, scheduling, and financial intake in compliance with institutional and regulatory standards. Daily workflows and resolves complex issues impacting patient access and revenue integrity.
2. Mentor and evaluate Patient Account Coordinators to promote accountability, productivity, and consistent application of front office policies. Provides real-time guidance, performance feedback, and training reinforcement.
3. Enforce revenue cycle best practices related to insurance verification, eligibility validation, authorizations, and upfront collections. Identifies process gaps and implements corrective actions to reduce denials and prevent downstream billing issues.
4. Serve as the primary escalation point for complex patient financial concerns, including account discrepancies, insurance issues, and service eligibility. Delivers clear communication while ensuring patient satisfaction and compliance with dental school policies.
5. Monitor service coverage to maintain operational continuity across all front desk locations. Adjusts staffing and priorities in response to volume fluctuations and clinic needs.
6. Reports trends, errors, and risk areas to leadership with actionable recommendations.
7. Collaborate with billing, clinical leadership, and compliance teams to support seamless transitions from front-end operations to downstream revenue functions.
8. Train and onboard new staff and students on front office workflows, systems, and patient financial protocols. Reinforces reference materials and reinforces standard operating procedures.
9. Perform other duties as assigned.
(Hourly Rate: $17.00 - $27.65)
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a related field and two (2) years of related experience required. Work experience may substitute for education requirement.
