Position Summary
The University of Alabama at Birmingham, Cell, Developmental, & Integrative Biology, is looking for a dedicated and experienced Research Scientist Senior to join their team. The lab goals include identifying and understanding nutrient and metabolic determinants of skeletal muscle regeneration and myogenesis and skeletal muscle atrophy and homeostasis in aging and chronic disease.
General Responsibilities
A Research Scientist Senior oversees substantial research projects, providing expert guidance and ensuring rigorous scientific standards. This role involves a broader scope of responsibility, including project management, cross-functional collaboration, and securing funding through grant proposals. Senior scientists exercise considerable discretion in research decisions and play a pivotal role in shaping the research agenda. Depending on the research focus, this position may involve research collaborator contact, research animal contact, and/or specimens.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Project management for research projects relevant to nutrient and metabolic determinants of skeletal muscle regeneration and homeostasis; provide expert guidance on cell culture assays, immunostaining procedures.
Sample preparation for assays, and other biochemical and molecular assays; assist with animal and human sample collection, when needed.
Assist with graduate student training; assist Dr. Thalacker-Mercer with grant proposal applications; develop and submit manuscripts; and secure funding through grant proposals.
Maintaining communications with collaborators.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Salary Range: $ 81,525- $ 132,475
Qualifications
Qualifications
Doctorate degree in a related field and three (3) years of related experience OR Master's degree in a related field and five (5) years of related experience OR Bachelor's degree in a related field and seven (7) years of related experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.
Preferences
Experience working in a research setting.
PhD in a biological science preferred.
