General Mechanic – Campus Maintenance
The primary accountabilities below are intended to describe the general content of and requirements of this position and are not intended to be an exhaustive statement of duties.
Description
Reads, understands and interprets blueprints drawings, floor plans, schedules and manufacturers’ operating and/or maintenance specifications as related to electrical, mechanical, plumbing, HVAC and special equipment, building structures and finishes. Performs minor, routine and preventive maintenance including operating, cleaning, inspecting, adjusting, tightening, replacing, lubricating, reporting problems, etc., on electrical and mechanical equipment, plumbing systems and fixtures, and building structures and furnishings. May be called upon to assist other maintenance personnel in completion of work tasks including but not limited to electricians, HVAC mechanics, plumbers, carpenters, masons, painters, sheet metal workers, etc. Responds to emergency as well as routine requests for service from building occupants.
Pay Range: $17.00 - $24.00 (Commensurate with experience & qualifications).

High School Diploma or GED and two (2) years of related experience.
Driving record should meet University underwriting guidelines to drive vehicle in performance of University business. Current underwriting guidelines include possession a valid driver’s license, issued in the United States; at least 21 years of age; at least three years of driving experience; maintain an acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Reads, understands and interprets blueprints drawings, floor plans, schedules and manufacturer’s operating and/or maintenance specifications as they relate to electrical, mechanical, plumbing, HVAC and special equipment, building structures and finishes.
Performs minor, routine and preventive maintenance to include operating, cleaning, inspecting, adjusting, tightening, replacing, lubricating, reporting problems, etc., on electrical and mechanical equipment, plumbing systems and fixtures, and building structures and furnishings.
Assists other maintenance personnel in the completion of their work to include Electricians, HVAC Mechanics, Plumbers, Carpenters, Masons, Painters, Sheet Metal Workers, etc.
Responds to requests for service from building occupants to include emergencies, hot and cold calls, lighting problems, plumbing problems, minor installations, repairs, adjustments, etc.
Performs other duties assigned.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Proven ability to perform General Mechanic job duties
Attention to detail
Troubleshooting and problem solving
Skilled in the use of hand and power tools
Ability to communicate effectively and establish and maintain effective working relationships with guest, management, and staff
Ability to follow and complete work orders and preventative maintenance duties, and provide updates on the work order status
Ability to work alone efficiently, productively, and with minimal supervision
Ability to maintain a clean work site and area, that minimally interferes with University’s operations
Physical Requirements:
Possess the necessary physical requirements, with or without the aid of mechanical devices, to safely perform the duties and responsibilities of this position to include:
Lifting and carrying a minimum of fifty (50) pounds
Climbing stairs, ladders and scaffolding, and working at heights above thirty (30) feet
Perform tasks requiring bending, stooping, kneeling, and walking significant distances between and within buildings on campus
Working in confined spaces
Working within extreme temperature ranges
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 7:30am – 4:00pm (Must be able to work a flexible work schedule) (Subject to change to meet the needs of the University and department).
