Description
The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) is seeking an ASSISTANT DIRECTOR-ACADEMIC SUPPORT to provide leadership, supervision, and program management for academic support initiatives to oversee Supplemental Instruction, Tutoring, Success Coaching, & Signature Workshop programming.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Manage the Supplemental Instruction (SI) Program o Build and maintain partnerships with faculty and departments to identify and expand SI-supported courses. o Oversee the recruitment, training, and supervision of SI Leaders. o Monitor program participation and outcomes to ensure continuous improvement.
2. Oversee the University Tutoring Program o Coordinate tutoring services across multiple campus tutoring centers. o Ensure program consistency and alignment with institutional standards. o Visit tutoring centers regularly to assess needs, provide guidance, and ensure quality.
3. Hire, Train, and Supervise Student Staff o Recruit, hire, train, and evaluate student tutors, peer partners, and supplemental instructors. o Provide ongoing professional development and mentorship.
4. Develop and Implement the Peer Partner Program o Create a program to support students with study skills, time management, and other academic strategies beyond traditional course content.
5. Data Management and Reporting o Collect, analyze, and report data related to tutoring, SI sessions, and academic support outcomes. o Prepare reports for the Director of Academic Success and other university stakeholders.
6. Expand the Signature Workshop Program o Develop and coordinate workshops that address academic success topics and student needs. o Evaluate workshop effectiveness and implement enhancements.
7. Provide Train-the-Trainer Workshops o Offer professional development sessions for staff interested in facilitating VMASC workshops.
8. Perform other duties as assigned.
(Annual Salary: $52,555 - $65,300)
Qualifications
Master's degree in Higher Education Administration, Student Affairs, Education or a related field and three (3) years of related experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.
The ideal candidate will provide leadership, supervision, and program management for academic support initiatives to oversee Supplemental Instruction, Tutoring, Signature Workshop programming.
