Description

The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), Nutrition Sciences Research is seeking a Manager-Clinical Research Nursing.

General Responsibilities

  • To oversee staff in conducting all study activities including more complex protocols in accordance with the protocol, IRB regulations, and Good Clinical Practice (GCP).

  • To assist with the management of the life cycle of the clinical trial as needed from study start-up through trial maintenance to study closure.

  • To oversee and/or manage multiple clinical research protocols and the associated personnel.

  • To serve as a resource person or act as a subject matter expert (SME) within area of clinical expertise.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Oversees staff in conducting all study activities, including complex protocols, ensuring compliance with the protocol, IRB regulations, and GCP. Leads the operational execution of clinical trials from initiation through study closure.

  2. Supervises and manages multiple clinical research protocols and the associated personnel. Serves as a subject matter expert (SME) in clinical operations and research nursing practices.

  3. Ensures patient safety, confidentiality, and adherence to institutional policies. Develops and implements training and guidance for staff on ethical conduct of clinical research and participant safety.

  4. Trains and supervises staff in the use of Electronic Data Capture (EDC) systems, Case Report Forms (CRFs), and related study tools. Oversees data entry and quality review processes; assists in developing standard operating procedures (SOPs) for quality assurance and regulatory compliance.

  5. Assigns, reviews, and monitors staff workloads and performance in study operations. Mentors junior staff and fosters professional development. Collaborates closely with investigators, sponsors, CROs, participants, health care providers, and program leadership.

  6. Partners with administrative personnel and the Program Manager to ensure financial oversight of research operations, including budget preparation, patient care cost tracking, and financial compliance. Supports audit and monitoring activities and initiates corrective actions as needed.

  7. Maintains the environment of care, including equipment, supplies, and safety protocols. Leads the development, review, and implementation of policies and procedures for clinical research operations.

  8. Coordinates compliance with institutional, state, and federal regulations affecting clinical research. Ensures accurate management of investigational products (drug, device, biologic) and designs best practices for handling and documentation.

  9. Performs other duties as assigned.

Annual Salary Range: $85,600 - $139,100

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a related field and eight (8) years of related experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement. Certified Clinical Research Coordinator (CCRC) or Certified Clinical Research Professional (CCRP) certification preferred. Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) by the Alabama Board of Nursing required.

  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing or related field preferred.
