FINANCIAL AID SPECIALIST I

University of Alabama at Birmingham

Reviews and evaluates applications for various student financial assistance programs. Make corrections to data to comply with federal regulations. Provides counseling and assistance to students and parents and compiles financial aid packages and/or processes financial aid transactions. Assists in coordinating and presenting various department special programs.

Key Roles & Responsibilities

· Assist students and families with the completion of financial aid applications, such as the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), institutional forms, and scholarship applications.

· Counsels students and families about available financial aid programs, including grants, scholarships, loans, and work-study opportunities.

· Reviews and processes financial aid applications and ensure that they are completed accurately and in a timely manner.

· Ensures that all financial aid transactions comply with federal, state, and institutional regulations and policies.

· Hosts financial aid workshops and information sessions for students and parents.

· Assists students with the Federal Direct Loan process, including loan application, entrance/exit counseling, and loan servicing.

· Works closely with admissions, registrar, academic departments, and other offices to ensure smooth processing of financial aid and coordination across campus.

· Performs other duties as assigned.

Hourly Range: $16.50

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree required. Work experience may substitute for education requirement.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Work Characteristics

· Ability to read and write and be able to comprehend written and oral instruction

· Ability to communicate effectively

· Knowledge of federal regulations in higher education including, but not limited to, ADA, Rehabilitation Act, FERPA

· Analytical/financial skills
