Groundskeeper Group Lead I
The primary accountabilities below are intended to describe the general content and requirements of this position and are not intended to be an exhaustive statement of duties.
Description
Performs routine and project maintenance of University grounds to include lawns, exterior planted materials (trees, bushes, plants, etc.), sidewalks, parking lots, driveways, trash receptacles, outside furnishings and equipment, patios, decks, art work, athletic fields, running tracks, and other areas.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS TO INCLUDE:
· Directs, plans and coordinates the activities of small groups of Groundskeepers in completing routine projects, groundskeeping and landscaping tasks to include ground maintenance procedures, soil preparations and sampling, landscaping practices, equipment operation, planting requirements, etc.
· Maintains and performs minor repairs on powered and mechanical groundskeeping equipment. Arranges for other equipment repairs and service as required or scheduled.
· Performs routine and project maintenance of University grounds to include lawns, interior and exterior planted materials (trees, bushes, plants, etc.), sidewalks, parking lots, driveways, trash receptacles, outside furnishings and equipment, patios, decks, art work, athletic fields, running tracks, and other areas.
· Trains and assists in providing orientation to new employees.
· Assists Grounds Supervisors in diagnosing and troubleshooting groundskeeping and landscaping problems including pest control, soil conditions, drainage, turf and plant selections, and other similar problems.
· Operates large power and field mowers, hand tools, and large vehicles associated with grounds maintenance and landscaping activities.
· Assist Grounds Supervisors in planning and scheduling groundskeeping projects. This includes: designing landscape layouts, selecting trees, shrubbery, turf, plants, color materials, and ground cover, establishing fertilizer, pesticide and herbicide programs according to federal, state and local codes, developing grounds maintenance specifications and other similar tasks.
· Assists Grounds Supervisors with their duties and responsibilities to include assigning daily workloads, maintaining employee work records, scheduling groundskeeping tasks, ordering materials and supplies, inspecting the work, and other similar tasks.
· May be called upon to perform or assist in the work of other maintenance personnel including, but not limited to, outside construction workers, groundskeepers, painters, and outside contractors.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
· Knowledge of fertilizers and pesticides.
· Ability to read, write and understand basic instructions
· Ability to maintain a good driving record
· Ability to communicate
· Ability to operate riding or power mower, power tools, and hand tools
· Ability to work as part of a team
Starting Hourly Rate: $16.50- $22.15 (Commensurate with experience & qualifications)
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:
High School diploma or GED and two (2) years of related experience required.
MVR:
Driving record should meet University underwriting guidelines to drive vehicle in performance of University business. Current underwriting guidelines include possession a valid driver’s license, issued in the United States; at least 21 years of age; at least three years of driving experience; maintain an acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).
PERSONAL:
Possess the necessary physical requirements, with or without the aid of mechanical devices, to safely perform the duties and responsibilities of this position to include:
· Lifting, moving and carrying a minimum of fifty (50) pounds.
· Perform tasks requiring climbing stairs, bending, stooping, kneeling, and extensive walking significant distances between and within buildings on campus.
· Working in the rain and in unfavorable weather conditions, hot, cold, wet, etc.
· Working in confined spaces
· Working within extreme temperature ranges
