Description

The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), Neurosurg-Laboratory Research, is seeking a Researcher Senior to join the team. This position offers a unique balance of laboratory management and hands-on research, with responsibilities split evenly between both areas. The Researcher Senior will ensure smooth day-to-day lab operations while contributing directly to cutting-edge studies in novel drug development for brain tumors. This position is ideal for someone who thrives in a dynamic environment, combining organizational leadership with impactful scientific discovery.

General Responsibilities

As a Researcher Senior, you will have expanded responsibilities, overseeing complex or multiple research projects and providing strategic direction. This professional-level role involves mentoring junior researchers, managing project budgets, and ensuring the integrity and quality of research outcomes. Your expertise will be critical in guiding experimental design, data interpretation, and contributing to high-impact publications. Depending on the research focus, this position may involve research collaborator contact, research animal contact, and/or specimens.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Management and ordering of laboratory consumables and supplies.

  2. Oversight of mouse breeding colonies, including scheduling, record keeping, and coordination with animal care staff.

  3. Maintenance and organization of cell lines, plasmids, and vectors.

  4. Monitoring and enforcement of laboratory safety protocols.

  5. Preparation, submission, and maintenance of IACUC and IRB protocols.

  6. Routine maintenance, scheduling, and troubleshooting of laboratory equipment.

  7. General coordination to ensure smooth and efficient functioning of the research group.

  8. Conducting in vitro experiments using cultured cells to evaluate therapeutic agents.

  9. Performing in vivo experiments in mouse models, including drug administration and treatment monitoring.

  10. Collecting, analyzing, and interpreting experimental data.

  11. Collaborating with other team members to advance ongoing projects and generate publications.

  12. Performs other duties as assigned.

Salary Range $ 60,835- $ 98,855

Doctorate degree in a related field OR Master's degree in a related field and two (2) years of related experience OR Bachelor's degree in related field and four (4) years of related experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.
