General Responsibilities:
The Sr. Contracts Officer is a leadership position in the Office of Research ARO (Academic Research Org) Clinical Trials organization. Sr. Officers are responsible for assisting the Director – ARO-CT Contracts with ensuring clinical trial agreements are processed timely and in accordance with applicable laws, policies and regulations. The Sr. Officer will be responsible for the initial contract revisions and continual sponsor negotiations for all clinical trial agreements including CTAs, CDAs, PMAs, amendments, sub-contracts, study start-ups and other clinical trial-related agreement types.
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
Provide supervisory oversight for ARO-CT Officer positions including training, coaching, mentoring and issue resolution.
Responsible for effectively managing the UAB clinical trial portfolio which includes clinical trial agreements, confidentiality agreements, study start-up agreements, master agreements, data use agreements, amendments, work orders, and no cost extensions
Ensure institutional Time to Activation (TTA) standards for CT related agreements are consistently met.
Work to develop internal processes designed to streamline agreement review and negotiation workflows.
Develop comprehensive communication strategies for the UAB departmental investigators/staff to ensure timely and transparent dissemination of information.
Advise UAB faculty and staff regarding all aspects of contract terms and negotiations.
Draft, review and revise clinical trial agreements including complex agreements; assesses and manages associated risks, identifying potentially objectionable terms and conditions and determining appropriate language to ensure best position for university.
Ensure that agreements comply with university policies and procedures and federal, state, local and international regulations and laws.
Efficiently and effectively negotiates terms and conditions of agreements with third party sponsors. Update applicable information systems, including myUABResearch frequently with detailed progress reports to ensure effective transparency to the UAB research community.
Identify and report potential problems, actions and policy issues requiring clarification or corrective action.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Pay Range: $63,875 – $103,800
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Business, Public Administration, Science, or related field and seven (7) years of related experience required.
Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.
