Description
To assess nutrition status, develop, implement, and monitor nutrition interventions to achieve medical nutrition therapy goals and desired outcomes, provide nutrition education and counseling, and document all nutrition intervention in the medical record. To precept dietetic interns, participate in quality improvement activities, and participate in multidisciplinary team activities and medical rounds as schedule allows.
To manage and help conduct community and clinical nutritional services within UAB's Department of Nutrition Sciences. This would include but not be limited to designing recipes, cooking demonstrations, diet plans, medical nutrition therapy, nutrition education, and nutrition counseling. Performing assessments and nutrition counseling services, working with clinic staff to collect outcomes data, and working with nutrition experts in the department to develop and maintain nutrition services. Represents and speaks on behalf of the department. To develop and provide detailed nutrition education materials, medical nutrition therapy, resource plans, and status reports. To participate in project meetings and to be responsible for client nutritional goals and progress, and analysis of nutrition services.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Create and design educational content, videos, and classes for clients related to medical nutrition therapy, seasonal nutrition topics, and nutrition's role in disease treatment and prevention.
- Ensures nutrition education is created, tailored, and provided to individuals appropriately, ethically, and accurately to assist in their medical nutrition therapy.
- Monitor client knowledge and progress and use critical thinking skills and medical nutrition therapy to create and prescribe educational materials appropriately.
- Works directly with coworkers as they provide nutrition-related services to referred eligible individuals and families and assist in obtaining outcomes.
- Conducts counseling and medical nutrition therapy for Viva recipients.
- Helps to develop, create, implement, and monitor all clinical and community nutrition education and aspects of the department.
- Works with the department's community and clinic staff to collect outcomes data and works with nutrition experts in the department to develop and maintain nutrition services

Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Medical Dietetics or related field required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement. If licensed prior to 12/31/2023 a Bachelor's degree in human nutrition, food and nutrition, dietetics, or food systems management required. If licensed after 01/01/2024 a Master's degree in human nutrition, food and nutrition, dietetics, or nutrition education required. Currently licensed (active or temporary) as a Dietitian with the State of Alabama Board of Examiners for Dietetic/Nutrition Practice required.
