Description
The University of Alabama at Birmingham, Med - Pulmonary/Allergy/Critical Care, is seeking a dedicated Researcher Assistant to join their team. In this position, the successful candidate will play a key role in supporting daily laboratory operations by managing the procurement, tracking, and organization of research materials.
General Responsibilities
As a Researcher Assistant, you will contribute to the daily operations of research projects under the close supervision of experienced researchers. This role involves performing standard research tasks, including sample processing, basic data analysis, and maintaining accurate records. Your support will be crucial in helping senior team members execute complex protocols and ensuring the smooth functioning of the lab. Depending on the research focus, this position may involve research collaborator contact, research animal contact, and/or specimens.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Place laboratory supply orders through approved systems, review and reconcile P-Card transactions, and ensure cost-effective purchasing while maintaining compliance with institutional policies.
Contact vendors to obtain quotes.
Track and organize laboratory supplies and reagents, monitor stock levels to avoid shortages, and implement systems for efficient storage and retrieval.
Support adherence to Environmental Health Safety (EHS) regulations, maintain accurate safety documentation, and participate in inspections or audits to keep the lab in regulatory compliance.
Establish and maintain service contracts for laboratory equipment to ensure optimal performance, compliance with service schedules, and minimal downtime.
Facilitate day-to-day functions of a large research laboratory by streamlining workflows, liaising with vendors, and providing logistical support to meet research goals.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Hourly Range $16.50- $21.45
Qualifications
Qualifications
Associate's degree in a related field OR High School diploma or GED and two (2) years of related experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.
Preferences
Familiarity with laboratory supply ordering systems (e.g., Oracle iProcurement and BuyUAB), basic knowledge of lab safety and compliance practices, inventory management, knowledge of P-Card purchasing and reconciliation processes.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office/Excel or similar software.
