General Responsibilities:

The Manager-Research Informatics-Research Tech & Comms will be responsible for leading the Office of Research’s RTC’s (Research Technology and Communication) Informatics division. This role requires independently employing a broad knowledge of IT principles, practices, and procedures to meet and exceed the ever evolving demands of research reporting. Collaborating with a diverse team of analysts, this role will lead a team which will work to provide reporting solutions for university research divisions and/or departments by compiling data from multiple sources to support ongoing and new research reporting and forecasting requirements. The position will manage and control highly complex reporting tasks, including technical analysis and design, across multiple database platforms and technologies. The role will lead a group which will gather reporting requirements from a variety of constituents and provide support for data needs while ensuring strict adherence to regulatory requirements and data security policies. Responsible for all research informatics operations for the assigned area, including scheduling, staffing, and issue resolution.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

  1. Responsible for research analytics including research expenditure reporting, research awards and submissions reporting, UAB Dean’s dashboard reporting, annual reports including allocation, volume and success reporting.

  2. Leads the RTC team responsible for developing Tableau and Power-BI dashboards for UAB Sr. leadership including forecasting modeling and historic trend analysis of research award metrics and research expenditure KPIs.

  3. Responsible for creating and maintaining the Office of Research eco-system of websites including the twenty-nine (29) current OoR websites and sites designed for the Academic Research Organization (ARO), the UWIRC (University-Wide Interdisciplinary Research Centers Program) and IRCP (Institutional Research Core Program).

  4. Manages the Office Research Sharepoint365 intranet sites including all website content which requires central authentication.

  5. Key contributor to the “Igniting Data Insights” data lake campaign, utilizing Microsoft Fabric, to design and construct research-related data artifacts to include reports and user dashboards.

  6. Leads the report conversion initiative for myUABResearch eRA for all modules of research administration systems including Sponsored Programs, COI, OIRB, IACUC, Export Control and Vivarium Operations.

  7. Liaison with Huron and Amazon AWS technologist to insure QuickSite visualizations are successfully deployed to the UAB research community, ensuring additional required enhancements, including time to activation (TTA) metrics.

  8. Responsible for all Office of Research communication efforts including Research Matters, eReporter, UAB Office of Research Alliance, Salesforce Marketing Cloud announcements, myUABResearch communication efforts, and the IRB/ARP listserv.

  9. Information Security Liaison for the Office of Research.

  10. Manages Informatics operations of the assigned area, including scheduling, staffing, and issue resolution.

  11. Performs other duties as assigned.

Pay Range: $94,375 – $153,355

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in a related field required and six (6) years of related experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.
