Duties
The Server Administrator's role is to ensure the stability, performance and integrity of all Health System server systems. This includes hosts, virtual machines, physical servers, data storage systems, presentation services, authentication and authorization systems, data and server backup systems and system services. In addition, the Systems Administrator will participate with the installation, monitoring, maintenance and support of all server hardware, software, and networks. The person will also diagnose, resolve, and document hardware and software server problems in a timely and accurate fashion, and provide team and end user training where required. The System Administrator ensures the availability of client/server applications, ensures high performance levels of the various business and clinical applications, configures new implementations and develops processes and procedures for ongoing management and monitoring of enterprise server and storage environments. Handles client access issues and assists in overseeing the physical, integrity, and safety of the server and storage stacks/farms.
Primary Responsibilities
· Responsible for effective provisioning, installation/configuration, operation, and maintenance of systems hardware and software and related infrastructure
· Ensures that system hardware, operating systems, software systems, and related procedures adhere to organizational standards
· Investigate and troubleshoot issues. Repair and recover from hardware or software failures
· Coordinate and communicate with impacted business units
· Manage workflow using an enterprise ticketing system
· Windows Server Build and Administration
· Participates in technical research and development to enable continuing innovation within the infrastructure
· Ability to take project requirements and turn them into an executable plan
· Respond to emergency server outages in accordance with business continuity and disaster recovery plans.
· Create and maintain documentation as it relates to server configuration, server relationships, and service records.
· Adhere to policies, procedures, and associated training plans for server administration, usage, and disaster recovery.
· Maintain company servers, hosts, Active Directory, file servers and other server related hardware.
· Utilize trouble ticketing and tracking system to coordinate work and document work tasks.
· Conduct research on server products, services, protocols, and standards to remain abreast of developments in the server industry.
· Oversee new and existing equipment, hardware, and software upgrades.
· Configure servers to ensure their smooth and reliable operation for fulfilling business objectives and processes.
· Monitor server performance and troubleshoot problem areas as needed.
· Receive and respond to incoming calls, automated alerts, notifications, and/or e-mails/ticketing system regarding server problems.
· Ensure server authentication with directory services.
· Practice server asset management, including maintenance of server component inventory and related documentation and technical specifications information
· Monitor and test server performance and provide server performance statistics and reports.
· Participate in maintaining all server security solutions.
Qualifications
Qualifications
· Associate's degree and four (4) years of related work experience required. Work experience may substitute for education requirement.
· At least 4 years of Information Technology experience
· At least 3 years of Windows and/or Linux Administration experience
· Specialization in at least one of the following: Active Directory, Citrix, Databases, VMware, Linux/Unix, Storage Systems
· Windows Server 2019/2022 Build and Administration
· Redhat/Oracle Enterprise Linux 6, 7, 8 Build and Administration
· Experience administering Microsoft Clusters, Linux Clusters
· Experience with DHCP, DNS, IP configuration
· Scripting skills including PowerShell, vbscript, bash, Python or Kubernetes
· Understanding of Active Directory, Group Policies, OU structure
· Strong Troubleshooting skills regarding all components of Windows from OS and driver issues to authentication issues
· An understanding of server capacity planning, server security principles, and general server management best practices
· Working technical knowledge of current server hardware, software, protocols
· Ability to operate server process monitors, interpret output from procmon, network monitors, and competence with testing tools
· Hardware troubleshooting experience
· Knowledge of granting and removing rights to resources including network file servers
· Certifications: MCSA
· Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills
· Able to conduct research into server issues as required
· Ability to present ideas in user-friendly language
· Self-motivated and directed, with keen attention to detail
· Able to effectively prioritize tasks in a high-pressure environment
· Able to work with moderate supervision
