Description

The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) is seeking a FINANCIAL AID SPECIALIST I to review and evaluate applications for various student financial assistance programs. To make corrections to data to comply with federal regulations. To provide counseling and assistance to students and parents and compile financial aid packages and/or processes financial aid transactions. To assist in coordinating and presenting various department special programs.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

1. Assist students and families with the completion of financial aid applications, such as the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), institutional forms, and scholarship applications.

2. Counsels students and families about available financial aid programs, including grants, scholarships, loans, and work-study opportunities.

3. Reviews and processes financial aid applications and ensure that they are completed accurately and in a timely manner.

4. Ensures that all financial aid transactions comply with federal, state, and institutional regulations and policies.

5. Hosts financial aid workshops and information sessions for students and parents.

6. Assists students with the Federal Direct Loan process, including loan application, entrance/exit counseling, and loan servicing.

7. Works closely with admissions, registrar, academic departments, and other offices to ensure smooth processing of financial aid and coordination across campus.

8. Performs other duties as assigned.

(Hourly Rate: $15.00 - $16.50)

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.
