Description
The O'Neal Comprehensive Cancer Center is one of 51 NCI-designated comprehensive cancer centers in the United States and is the only one in Alabama and in the Deep South region. A comprehensive designation also means UAB Medicine patients have access to leading-edge treatments or clinical trials that they may not otherwise have at local community hospitals or smaller cancer centers. For many, an NCI designation can hold the key to survival. On campus and around Birmingham, the O'Neal Cancer Center is a significant part of our economic powerhouse. The O'Neal Cancer Center powers more than 400 scientists and physician-scientists, cares for 20,000 patients annually, and is home to more than 160 employees, plus all the physicians and clinical staff engaged in cancer patient care.

Responsible for providing fiscal and budgetary services to an assigned unit. Uses knowledge of the fundamental concepts, practices and procedures specific to accounting, financial analysis and budgetary processes. Manages assigned departmental accounts and provides ongoing financial analysis of departmental accounting functions. Assures proper accounting for state, grant, contract and/or revenue accounts as assigned. Provides analysis of gross expenditures and makes recommendations for maintaining fiscal stability. Assists in developing and administering budgets. May establish and maintain financial management databases and systems which conform to standard accounting practices. Monitors adherence to financial policy and procedure. Develops and provides financial statements and reports to upper management on regular or requested basis. May supervise departmental accounting operations and activities which could include approval and processing of disbursement and internal requisitions. Interacts with vendors and complies with UAB bid policy and procedures. May make decisions regarding the use of financial resources. Provides financial guidance to assigned staff and appropriate University personnel and coordinates integration with University accounting system. May prepare and/or supervise processing of departmental personnel action forms and as well as assume some payroll duties. Acts as liaison with appropriate University financial staff.
The Financial Officer I serves as the primary point of contact for assigned accounts, responsible for monthly reconciliations and monitor daily activities.
Account Management:
- Cervical Spore: Annual Budget $892,995 with 6 Projects and 2 Clinical Trials Clinical Trial PSA's
- Cumulative Budget $846,000 with 3 Projects Investigator Initiated Clinical Trials
- Robert Awards National Clinical Trial Network: Annual Budget $747,426 with 5 Projects
- American Cancer Society IRG: Annual Budget $524,000 with 10 Projects
- University Wide Interdisciplinary Center: Annual Budget $850,000
- Cancer Center Director Discretionary Account: Annual Budget $600,000
- Cancer Center Operating Endowments: Approximately $585,000 Annually
- Cancer Center Internally Awarded Pilot Grants: 12 separate projects ranging from $50,000 to $100,000 per project
Oracle Responsibilities:
- Primary reviewer, approver and posting encumbrances for ACT documents and salary re-classes for all cancer center documents
- Over 450 individuals receive funding from an account managed by the cancer center.
- Review and Approve Oracle payment request and requisitions ensuring expenses align with university policy
- Complete, review and approve University documents such as Cost Transfers, re-budgets, budget modifications, and others.
- Served as backup for submitting payment requests, PCARD orders and requisitions

Salary Range: $43,890 - $71,320
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business or a related field and two (2) years of related experience required. Work experience may substitute for education requirement.
