The University of Alabama at Birmingham, Nutrition Sciences Research, is seeking an experienced Researcher III to join their team. Come join an exciting team in the Department of Nutrition Sciences focusing on nutrition research and dietary interventions!

General Responsibilities

  • As directed, to independently set up and perform experiments and procedures in support of lab goals.
  • To collect, enter, summarize and analyze data.
  • To monitor results, detect and report unusual outcomes and suggest modifications.
  • To develop and improve techniques for the lab.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  1. As directed, to independently set up and perform experiments and procedures in support of the goals of multiple labs.
  2. Collect, enters, summarizes and analyzes data.
  3. Monitor results, detect and report unusual outcomes and suggest modifications.
  4. Develop and improve techniques for the labs and kitchens.
  5. Assist in designing research diets and clinically controlled feeding menus and metabolic kitchen SOPs.
  6. Help prepare meals in the metabolic kitchen, recruit patients, deliver meals, and conduct other research study visits and responsibilities.
  7. Screening and enrolling participants in nutrition clinical trials.
  8. Conduct informed consent per GCP guidelines.
  9. Conduct patient visits per protocol schedule of events.
  10. Follow the clinical trial budget with each visit.
  11. Document adverse events, medications, and procedures conducted at each visit.
  12. Administer GCMs, surveys, food recalls, records, questionnaires, and other procedures as trained.
  13. Conduct study visits and meal pick-ups. Attend meetings with the Metabolic Kitchen Director to aid in the creation or enhancement of nutrition research.
  14. Assist PI, staff, and nursing to develop and adhere to protocol orders.
  15. Attend team meetings and educational training as required.
  16. Manage and help conduct nutrition interventions within the UAB Dept. Nutrition Sciences, and to work directly with research participants in executing the study protocol
  17. Serve as an assistant to the metabolic kitchen dietitian and manager.
  18. Prepare meals in the metabolic kitchen, recruit patients, deliver meals, and conduct other research study visits and responsibilities
  19. Design research diets and clinically controlled feeding menus, assist with diet preparation and meal pick up or delivery, perform nutrition assessments, analyze intake data using nutrient analysis programs, acquire informed consent, and work with clinic staff to collect outcomes data.
  20. Serve as a liaison with nutrition and medical staff, University Departments, ancillary departments and/or satellite facilities.
  21. Organize patient enrollment planning.
  22. Conduct quality assurance activities.
  23. Compile and analyze data within REDCap, NDSR, ProNutra, SharePoint, Excel, etc. To develop and implement procedures, maintain records, track progress, and conduct quality assurance on data collected.
  24. Serve as a dietetic internship preceptor and a mentor to junior staff, including students.
  25. Provides behavioral nutrition counseling to research participants to motivate them to adhere to study goals.
  26. Provides nutrition information, education, and instruction to enhance and maintain adherence to study protocols.
  27. Performs research, collects/analyzes data, and prepares reports.
  28. Prepares instructional materials and maintains program records.
  29. Schedules and conducts nutrition assessments including food records, education, and instruction.
  30. Performs pertinent record-keeping and follow-up activities.
  31. Assist with designing clinically controlled feeding menus, preparing meals in the metabolic kitchen, recruiting patients, delivering meals, and conducting other research study visits and responsibilities.
  32. Assists with data entry and data management.
  33. Work with staff and director to develop and implement food system and research procedures, maintain records, track progress, and conduct quality assurance on data collected.
  34. Performs other duties as assigned.

Salary Range: $35,570 - $59,800

Qualifications

Qualifications

Master's degree in a related field OR Bachelor s degree in related field and two (2) years of related experience OR Associate's degree in related field and four (4) years of related experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.

Preferences

  • Master's degree in Dietetics or a related field and one (1) year of related experience.
  • Foodservice and food systems management experience is preferred and is a related experience to this role.
  • Entry-level Registered Dietitian Nutritionist preferred.
