Duties
The Enterprise IT Systems Architect collaborates with domain leaders, subject matter experts, and key decision-makers to design, implement, and support the IT infrastructure of a large hospital system. This role ensures seamless integration of critical hospital applications, such as EPIC EHR and third-party healthcare support systems, within a secure, high-availability enterprise environment. By bridging IT strategy, business goals, and operational requirements, the Architect develops scalable, cost-effective solutions that support patient care and hospital operations. This position requires expertise in networking, enterprise storage, compute infrastructure, cloud integration, security, disaster recovery, and high-availability architectures.
Primary Responsibilities
· Lead technical planning, system architecture design, and implementation of IT infrastructure projects.
· Serve as a subject matter expert for infrastructure services, ensuring seamless integration across on-premises, cloud, and hybrid environments.
· Provide technical leadership in diagnosing and resolving complex system issues, offering strategic solutions and escalation guidance.
· Collaborate with development teams, engineers, and business units to ensure technology solutions align with hospital IT standards, legacy systems, and business objectives.
· Define and document cost-effective, scalable system solutions that meet performance and integration requirements.
· Develop and implement technology integration and migration strategies for on-premises and cloud-based systems.
· Identify technical risks, propose mitigation strategies, and provide proof-of-concept evaluations for emerging technologies.
· Ensure interoperability and seamless communication between enterprise systems.
· Assess infrastructure security, performance, and scalability needs, recommending improvements to meet evolving clinical and business requirements.
· Translate complex technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders, ensuring IT initiatives align with hospital operations.
· Stay current with industry trends, healthcare IT best practices, and emerging technologies to enhance system reliability and efficiency.
· Mentor junior team members, fostering technical growth and knowledge sharing.
Qualifications
Minimum qualifications
Associate s degree in Information Systems or a related field and ten (10) years of related experience required. Work experience may substitute for education requirement.
Desired Qualifications
· 10+ years of enterprise architecture experience, preferably in a large hospital system.
· 10+ years of IT support experience with hospital systems, including EPIC EHR.
· Extensive experience with server and application virtualization (VMware, Citrix); migration expertise is a plus.
· Strong background in healthcare IT, network design, security, and HIPAA compliance.
· Deep expertise across cloud, storage, compute, security, networking, and virtualization domains.
· Proven track record in backup and disaster recovery (DR) strategy design for hospital environments.
· Advanced knowledge of Active Directory, Entra ID, certificate lifecycle management, scripting, and log management.
· Strong proficiency in large-scale network design (LAN, WAN, wireless, data center) with an emphasis on security.
· Experience with high-availability storage solutions (SAN, NAS, object storage) and data protection strategies for sensitive patient data.
· Hands-on expertise in load balancing, clustering, and scalable server design.
· Strong troubleshooting skills for server and client performance issues, permissions, and security.
· Implementation experience with VDI, SaaS solutions, and Citrix application delivery.
· Familiarity with AWS, Azure, GCP, and hybrid cloud solutions, optimizing multi-cloud strategies.
· Solid understanding of cybersecurity best practices, encryption, access control, and incident response.
· Knowledge of healthcare data standards and high-performance computing applications.
· Excellent communication, problem-solving, and prioritization skills in high-pressure environments.
· Availability for after-hours change and on-call support as needed.
