Position Summary:

The Targeted Metabolomics and Proteomics Laboratory (TMPL) is organized to provide a variety of analytical and technical services using mass spectrometry to UAB investigators. The position is for an applicant with an interest in bioanalytical chemistry. The position entails the use of liquid chromatography (HPLC or UPLC) combined with mass spectrometry. The job entails processing biological samples prior to LC-MS. The applicant will also carry out data analysis.

As a Researcher Associate, this intermediate-level position will require you to independently conduct more complex studies and analyses, contributing to the advancement of research projects. With greater autonomy, you will design experiments, interpret data, and collaborate with senior researchers to develop and refine research protocols. Your role may also include mentoring junior staff and ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards. Depending on the research focus, this position may involve research participant contact, research animal contact, and/or specimens.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain a Qtrap mass spectrometer
• Operate and maintain a liquid chromatograph
• Meet with users to discuss their project
• Carry out biological sample processing
• Process collected LC-MS data
• Statistical analysis of cleaned data
• Attend lab meetings and follow up meetings with investigators
• Perform other duties as assigned

Salary Range: $19.80 - $28.84

Bachelor's degree in a related field OR Associate's degree in a related field and two (2) years of related experience OR High School diploma or GED and four (4) years of related experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.

Preferred:

• Degree in Chemistry, biochemistry, or biomedical science.
• 2 years of Lab experience
• Ability to act independently
• Ability to analyze and interpret data
• Ability to assimilate, trend, and present data to large groups
• Ability to problem solve and create solutions to novel situations.
