PROGRAM DIRECTOR I

This position will manage the day-to-day operations of the multi-disciplinary Gender Health Clinic (GHC). This person will also be the liaison for transgender patients and work closely with providers and community members to assist in obtaining care, screenings, and other services for transgender individuals. The GHC PD will also play a role in sensitivity training for UAB employees.
Key Roles & Responsibilities
Programmatic Leadership and Administrative Functions
- Plan and lead regular GHC team meetings to include operational and clinical stakeholders
- Provide updates on standard agenda items including: changes in referral services/providers in the area, pertinent legal changes, presentation of clinic metrics, and additional agenda items submitted by team members
- Create and maintain a living document of referral providers for all specialties.
Strategic Planning
- Create an annual strategic plan to address clinic growth, programmatic development and plans for community outreach and engagement.
- Clarify and Maintain modes of communication available to patients and the community for clinic and programmatic information.
- Maintain website with up to date phone numbers and pertinent information.
- Network with other programs in the region for strategic planning Help to grow research involvement in clinic- create and manage process for researchers requesting collaboration or recruitment for studies.
- Keep abreast of any legal changes or developments related to transgender healthcare at the federal, state, and local levels.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant laws and regulations.
Clinical Administrative Duties for Gender Health Clinic
- Be present in clinic during all clinic sessions and schedule follow up clinic appointments.
- Serve as a resource and advocate to patients, assisting them as a liaison between the community and the healthcare system. Identify needs of patients and coordinate access to services.
- Receive information requests from providers and act upon those requests Assist patients in clinic and via phone/impact with high-level clinic issues.
- Check impact messages daily and reply to all within 1 business day.
- Ensure urgent communication - Maintain a system for urgent communication with physicians, such as a pager or other quick communication method, to address any urgent healthcare needs or concerns that physicians may have for clinic patients or potential patients.
- Assist in referrals for services not available in clinic- mental health providers, psychiatrists, surgeons, dermatology, etc
- Create a document or system detailing which individual or group is responsible for clinical and administrative tasks.
- Prepare letters for surgeries - Assist transgender patients in preparing necessary letters or documentation required for gender-affirming surgeries, as per the WPATH (World Professional Association for Transgender Health) standards of care.
- Send results letters and fax labs to patients - Ensure patients receive test results letter or outside lab requisition from physicians promptly and efficiently, when directed by message from physician.
- Regularly review clinic performance metrics, patient satisfaction surveys, and outcomes to identify areas for improvement and ensure the delivery of high-quality care.
- Management of Prior Authorizations-Assist in completing prior authorizations for patient medications as needed by clinical providers.
- Maintain the highest professional conduct at all times.
Sensitivity Training
- Assist staff with sensitivity training activities during office hours and responding to patient phone calls, questions and medication requests.
- This position may perform assessments, intake, and community outreach, linkage to care, and provide educational materials to patients.
Collaboration with partners
- Attend clinic staff meetings, relevant staff in-service activities, and local training opportunities.
- Attend educational/professional meetings and conferences to remain up to date on current best practices and developments that effect the patient population and maintain any relevant certifications.
- Stay aware of current theories, policies, and remain up to date on emerging practices and bed current with the theory of trauma-informed service for gender nonconforming individuals.

- Ability to communicate and work effectively in diverse cultural environments and multidisciplinary setting with a diverse population of staff and physicians.
- Ability to use common office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Ability to provide precise, well-written documentation and handle multiple tasks and prioritize assigned duties.
- Ability to navigate difficult conversations with respect, tact, and professionalism to overcome complex challenges and barriers.
- Emphasis is placed on the ability to organize priorities, complete tasks, manage confidential patient information, and schedule and manage patient appointments, diagnostic testing, referrals and other managed care related issues.
- Knowledge of medical terminology Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to develop solutions and recommend changes and follow through with implementation
Salary Range: $47,665 - $77,455
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's degree in a related field
- And three (3) years of related experience required.
- Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.
