Development Writer

The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) seeks a Development Writer for the UAB Medicine/Heersink School of Medicine Advancement team. The primary responsibility of this position is to create personalized proposals, correspondence, and stewardship/impact reports on behalf of the Heersink School of Medicine Advancement team. The writer will assist with developing and enhancing the print and digital content with the goal of strengthening relationships with donors to UAB. This position will work closely with other members of UAB Advancement, Heersink School of Medicine and other University personnel to translate the Heersink School of Medicine’s mission and goals into substantial achievements in fundraising and general advancement.
This position reports directly to the Executive Director of Constituent Engagement within the Heersink School of Medicine.
This position is full-time, hybrid eligible after the probationary period.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Plans, researches and writes professional and personalized proposals and stewardship/impact reports for donors and prospects.
- Develops and writes other fundraising and marketing collateral, including appeals, one-pagers, annual reports and more.
- Serves as point person for creative decisions on select assignments, determines photography and graphic design needs and makes assignments as needed.
- Approves photography, illustrations and graphics.
- Ensures that all content meets the highest standards of quality and accuracy and conforms to UAB style requirements.
- Perform other duties as assigned
Annual Salary Range: $ 47,665 - $60,000
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, English or a related field and a minimum of three (3) years of related experience. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.

- Knowledge of Microsoft Office products
- Knowledge of AP Style preferred
- Project management skills

- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work well autonomously and within a team
- Self-motivated with critical attention to detail, deadlines and reporting
- Ability to develop and maintain collaborative relationships with peers and colleagues across the organization
