Position Summary:
As a Researcher Associate, this intermediate-level position will require you to independently conduct more complex studies and analyses, contributing to the advancement of research projects. With greater autonomy, you will design experiments, interpret data, and collaborate with senior researchers to develop and refine research protocols. Your role may also include mentoring junior staff and ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards. Depending on the research focus, this position may involve research participant contact, research animal contact, and/or specimens.
This position requires to independently conduct complex studies and analyses, contributing to the advancement of research projects. Design experiments, interpret data, and collaborate with senior researchers to develop and refine research protocols. Adhere strictly to the rearing protocol and dosing methods of the protocols to treat CF disease in utero prior to birth and during the early post-natal period diabetes in CF ferret models.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Uses expertise and ingenuity in the application of a wide variety of specialized and advanced techniques.
- Adhere strictly to the rearing protocol and dosing methods that applied to a drug called VX-770 to treat CF disease in utero prior to birth and during the early post-natal period.
- Perform feeding of special diet to ferrets, administer medications (orally, IP, IM), and daily monitoring.
- Closely manage and monitor new genetically engineered ferrets after birth, including weight management, glucose injection and food supplements.
- Monitor CF Ferret heath status and aliquot daily used drugs and preform treatments as necessary.
- Applies scientific principles to the solution of critical issues; evaluating approaches to unforeseen problems.
- Independently performs assigned projects with direction only as to the general result expected.
- Communicates findings via recognized publications and scientific meetings.
- Monitor and take care of post-operative ferrets, perform necropsy and tissue harvesting.
- Assist with blood glucose measurement and blood/stool collection.
- Also assist with PK study and perform euthanasia
- General lab maintenance, ordering supplies, cleaning/disinfecting surgical instruments and preparing lab supplies (syringes, needles, etc)
- Assimilates the details and significance of various scientific analyses and procedures.
- Manage all paperwork for ferret colonies, including database updates for lab and grant projects
- Perform other duties as assigned
Salary Range: $19.80 - $26.77
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a related field OR Associate's degree in a related field and two (2) years of related experience OR High School diploma or GED and four (4) years of related experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.
