Description
The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), Nursing Acute, Chronic & Continuing Care, is seeking a Clinical Research Nurse Coordinator III.
General Responsibilities
- To serve as primary coordinator for clinical research studies and supporting more senior team members.
- To provide a lead role in protocol screening and participant eligibility determination working alongside other team members to ensure compliance.
- To provide oversight to junior clinical research coordinators (CRC) and clinical research nurse coordinators (CRNC) in review of study documents.
- To conduct all study activities in accordance with the protocol, Institutional Review Board (IRB) regulations, and Good Clinical Practice (GCP).
- To provide quality care to participants and their families within the area of clinical specialty.
- To coordinate the life cycle of the study from start-up through maintenance to closure.
- To manage participant care including recruitment, screening, scheduling, consenting, conducting visits, and collecting various assessments such as adverse event (AE) information or questionnaires.
- To perform the informed consent process following GCP.
- To act as a liaison between the clinical and research staff, departments, ancillary services and the study sponsor to ensure protocol compliance throughout a study.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Oversees and actively participates as a member of a QI team.
- Manages all aspects of the CMS project, including day-to-day operations. Maintains QI-specific systems and documents including process flows and procedure manuals, and SOPs. Monitors study budgets.
- Assists in training and supervising students working on projects.
- Prepares and submits multiple levels of project documentation (i.e. IRB, educational materials, quarterly CMS reports, and project forms)
- Supports the CNRC with the submission of IRB paperwork and approvals. 6. Maintains budgets and manages day-to-day project activities.
- Maintains central project calendars and tracks project timelines.
- Coordinates and schedules weekly project staff meetings; develops agenda (in coordination with CNRC and PD); produces accurate meeting minutes. Interacts closely with QI team members to ensure that proper procedures for project activities comply with project procedures and timelines.
- Assists in data entry, cleaning, and coding.
- Coordinate with other employees' roles pertinent to the project.
- Coordinates meetings/conferences with appropriate University offices, nursing home administrators/leadership teams, regional CMS office, and Drugs and Bugs team members.
- Assists in the preparation, editing, and submission of presentations and publications.
- Participates in education/training opportunities that facilitate this role.
- Facilitates compliance relative to the University, School of Nursing, and sponsor policies, Office of Research and Scholarship within the School of Nursing, and University policies and procedures.
- Supporting the PI in providing fiscal and regulatory oversight to lab activities and project accounts.
- Managing and maintaining budgets/ledger accounts for the NIA-funded study, Care-Resistant Behavior Internet Training (CuRB-IT)
- Managing vendor contracts from registration to invoice processing.
- Managing legal contract submission process, including compiling/drafting contracts through the Contract Management System for university legal review.
- Maintaining a central calendar for tracking study timelines and milestones.
- Scheduling/participating in weekly project and team meetings.
- Coordinating meetings/conferences with appropriate University offices and external agencies as needed. This includes coordinating travel arrangements for the PI/research team.
- Ordering supplies and equipment and coordinating shipping of the supplies and equipment.
- Coordinating with associated investigators and consultants pertinent to research projects.
- Assisting with the creation and maintenance of study manuals of procedures as needed.
- Serving as point-of-contact for interested and enrolled participants. Communicating with participants, as needed, when participants call or email in questions or concerns about the project. Managing participants within custom-built participant databases.
- Contacting participants as necessary per project protocol.
- Coordinating with study partners to ensure recruitment goals are met and overseeing social media advertising and recruitment.
- Administering payments to participants at study milestones following study procedures; administrating and documenting payments.
- Ethical conduct is a fundamental expectation for every UAB community member. All employees must abide by the standards of behavior outlined in the UAB Enterprise Code of Conduct. - Performs other related duties as directed to support the missions of the School of Nursing.
Annual Salary Range: $67,070 - $108,990
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a related field and five (5) years of related experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement. Certified Clinical Research Coordinator (CCRC) or Certified Clinical Research Professional (CCRP) certification preferred. Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) by the Alabama Board of Nursing required.
This position requires proficiency with Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and Outlook) and other software (SPSS and SciWheel); database software systems such as Qualtrics and Survey Monkey; and the ability to construct tables, graphs, and charts.
